ALBANY—Undeterred by recent allegations against her boss, City Council candidate Julissa Ferreras announced she has the support of 20 community leaders around the Queens district she hopes to represent.
Ferreras had announced her candidacy for the seat, which is being vacated by Hiram Monserrate when he takes office next month as a state senator. Monserrate was accused last week of assaulting his girlfriend. He has pleaded not guilty and said he intends to serve in Albany.
Also running for the seat are George Dixon, Jose Giraldo, Francisco Moya and Carlos Pena, according to the Campaign Finance Board.
