'Yes We Can' Trickles Down to Jackson Heights
City Council candidate Francisco Moya is really hitching his wagon to Barack Obama's success.
“Yes We Can” is the name of Moya’s party, according to the petitions he handed in to the Board of Elections. (Like all special elections, the February 24 contest is nonpartisan, and requires candidates to make up party names).
Moya is now slated to appear on Row B, next to Julissa Ferreras, former chief of staff to Hiram Monserrate, who vacated the seat after he was elected to the State Senater.
Moya also announced he has the endorsement of Representative Nydia Velazquez, whose district includes parts of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.
Ferreras’ campaign last week unveiled the names of 14 City Council members who endorsed her candidacy.
The latest person to submit petitions in the Howard Beach Council race to succeed Joe Addabbo is Eric Ulrich, running on the "People First" party.
Mike Ricatto, running on the "Vote of the People" party, handed in his petitions last week.
