At Public Meeting, Bruno and Spitzer Debate Usefulness of Public Meetings

Joe Bruno doesn’t like public leadership meetings like the one he, Eliot Spitzer and Sheldon Silver held this afternoon.

“This format doesn’t work,” Bruno said near the end of the meeting, which was broadcast live on the governor's website. “It’s too much like putting on a show.”

He complained that they’re not addressing key legislative issues, like the death penalty, and that the meetings can put a cramp on other scheduling needs.

“I’ve got people who traveled in all over the northeast, and I’ve blown them off,” he said.

Spitzer replied, “I disagree with your statement that this has not been useful.”

After some talking some more about the usefulness of the meetings, they adjourned until next week.
