In Search of an Obama-Clinton Debate in Harlem
A group of organizers that wants to see a debate in Harlem between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton made a unmissable showing with these t-shirts last night at Obama's appearance at the Apollo. As one of the members, outspoken political activist and mayoral candidate Lenora Fulani told me, the group “wants to hear the distinction between [the two candidates], like where they stand on, not just particular issues, but the implementation of all the great things they’re planning to do.”
She added, “He’s obviously gotten the point that he can cut into some votes here and he needs to keep going.” I asked her what she thought convinced him he could do that and she replied, “I think we did.” She added, “I’d like to hear him talk more about Clintonism and how he feels about triangulation, which many people experienced as an effort to block the black community and the poor out of the Democratic Party.”

That is the most ignorant shirt I have ever seen. You don't see any other candidate with shirts saying, who decided Obama, Guiliani, etc. is good for the jewish, Italian, asian, african community. Shirts like this are pure racism. Who cares what color you are as long as you can do the job!
Who decided Fulani was relevant?
STFU, Lenora. No one likes you.
I disagree with Harlem (not verified). The wearer of the jacket had every right to ask that question and have it printed on the back of his jacket. We, Black folks, are not interested in be the dependable source of votes for the Democratic Party anymore without it actually paying off for us. Hillary Clinton is part of the same old party and I don't like the kind of support she has received.
Hillary is now the corporate darling and I agree with John Edwards, how is Hillary going to change the corrupt polices of Washington if she is beholding to the corporate entities that benefit from the corruption?
Obama is not taking money for corporations so he is not beholding to them. Perhaps he and/or Edwards can make some changes. Hillary in office guarantees business as usual. As of today, I'm casting my vote for Obama.
You want to call it racism? Then let's get it straight. The racism is produced by the back room deals that go on day in and day out between the NY Democratic Party and their chosen "good old boy/girl" candidates - and in this case the anointed one is Hillary Clinton. They choose eachother - without a thought of going to the voters.
Did any of the 99% of Black elected officials have any type of dialogue or forum with their constituents before they stood on the steps of City Hall and endorsed Hillary? No! She/they had it all wrapped up on day one. That's good old corrupt politics as usual.
What happenned to our democratic process? Why would it go without saying that our "so called" elected representatives make their decisions as to who is NY's presidential choice, behind closed doors. The voters must have the opportunity to hear all the candidates and tell their elected officials know who THEY want them to endorse. NOT the other way around!
This is a new day. We don't want leftovers anymore! Let the people decide!
Great shot of the Committee for a Harlem Debate between Clinton and Obama t-shirt! Good to see some coverage in The Politicker of the "behind-the-scenes" effort to create some dialogue in our city about this campaign. (Linked to The Hankster) Let the people decide!
