Bloomberg No Longer a Republican

Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has been flirting with the idea of an independent run for president, just changed his party registration to "blank," a spokesperson at the city Board of Elections told me.

This is the most concrete step to date Bloomberg has taken towards running for president.

The paperwork was received by the board's Manhattan office and will take effect one week after the November general election, the spokesperson said.

UPDATE: The mayor just put out the following statement on the switch:

“I have filed papers with the New York City Board of Elections to change my status as a voter and register as unaffiliated with any political party. Although my plans for the future haven’t changed, I believe this brings my affiliation into alignment with how I have led and will continue to lead our City.

“A nonpartisan approach has worked wonders in New York: we’ve balanced budgets, grown our economy, improved public health, reformed the school system and made the nation’s safest city even safer.

“We have achieved real progress by overcoming the partisanship that too often puts narrow interests above the common good. As a political independent, I will continue to work with those in all political parties to find common ground, to put partisanship aside and to achieve real solutions to the challenges we face.

“Any successful elected executive knows that real results are more important than partisan battles and that good ideas should take precedence over rigid adherence to any particular political ideology. Working together, there’s no limit to what we can do.”

Fidel says:

Excuse me, only an idiot would believe bloomberg is 1) a republican and 2) has done a good job managing NYC.

Where are Fred Siegal and Wayne Barrett to expose this fraud of a mayor who thinks every issue can be dealt with with a publicity stunt(congestion pricing fallacy) or through a publicist.

Let the laughs begin, bloomberg barely pulled a win over cash poor Freddy Ferrer after spending $500,000 a day and skipping out on the Harlem debate when Freddy was handing him his butt.

FLY says:

It's hard to claim he "barely pulled a win" when he won by nearly 20 points, regardless of whether he badly outspent his opponent or not.

debcoop says:

So what I want to know is why now? Why not wait till later like when the summer is over and congestion pricing had a chance of passing.? What does this do to Bruno and getting his help with congestion pricing? Does this help or hurt? I think it, at least at the moment, hurts.

So it could be said that Bloomberg is willing to seemingly subvert one of his most important initiatives to "green" the city to the personal cause of his political ambition.

Fidel says:

It was barely 17% if you need to be exact and a bogus terror alert was called the night of the scheduled Harlem debate. He polled at low 25% approval rate during his first term until he started spending money on spin doctors and selectively polling people.Let's not forget the old, white, male, billionaire, corporate media buddies who can't ever report the truth about one of their own.

bloomberg is using "green" as a publicity gimmick(I don't think he knows anything about "green" issues). How can anyone who flies around in a big jetliner with a small handful of people every other day and chopper to and from the airport while selfishly polluting the atmosphere and wasting fuel claim to be green? Or is this the nanny mayor imposing his nanny double standards on the rest of us?

Heaven help us if this whiny, loser, momma's boy get's elected to anything else.

FLY says:

The difference between saying he won by 20% versus saying he won by 17% is at worst, irresponsible rounding. The difference between saying he won by 17% versus he "barely pulled out a win" is as bogus as, well, calling a terror alert on the night of the Harlem debate perhaps? And I agree that money was a factor in his victory.

Fidel says:

Now all he has to figure out how is he can get DHS to call a terror alert if he has to debate any of the current and standby heavyweghts(Gore and Thompson), because we all know he struggled with cash poor Freddy, these guys are playing the game on a much higher level and NYC and their(rudy and bloomie)records* aren't all that the current and former mayor make them out to be, as Rudy is soon going to find out, lol!

Actually, I'm changing my mind about bloomberg running. I'd love to see this guy get trounced, exposed, embarrassed and shoved so far back into scenery that we might not ever see or here from this lying, shrimpy, whining, mamma's boy ever again when his term expires, LOL! Run, bloomie, run, LOL!

*Note to current presidential candidates, if bloomie does throw his hat in the ring use the two New Yorks debating point the smart Ferrer used so effectively against the out of touch billionaire. Now more than ever, there are 2 NYCs with NYC have the highest income disparity in America(greatly accelerated under clueless mike) and homelessnes reaching record highs for the first time in 30 years under this mayor and not to completely out do Dickens, the working poor(many civil servants) and non working poor and hungry are overrunning the nearly empty food pantries in the city.NYC as the luxury product, remember that one you jerks!

Pure and simple propaganda regardless of truth, facts, or sound evidence.
