Bookforum EIC Eric Banks Resigns, Will Cover Horseracing for Guardian America

As Gawker reported this afternoon, Eric Banks is resigning his post as editor-in-chief of BookForum after four years; once he closes on his last issue this spring, he told The Observer, he’ll cover horseracing for Michael Tomasky at Guardian America, and possibly also help with the site’s books and arts coverage. That will just be part-time work, though, he said—he hasn’t yet decided what else he wants to do.

“Part of me wants to move back to my beloved adopted homeland of Malta and write about pigeon-racing for a year,” he said. “I’m going to see if I have a book idea in me as well.”

“I’m also planning on doing as much book reviewing as I can, because I really do love that,” he added.

Mr. Banks said the decision-makers over at ArtForum—which owns BookForum—haven’t started interviewing for his replacement, but will probably start making calls next week once they get back from the Freeze Art Fair in London.
