Dobbs: Next President "Will Be an Indepenent Populist...Who Has Not Yet Entered The Race."
Yesterday we noted that, according to The Wall Street Journal, friends of Lou Dobbs say he's "seriously considering" a run for president as an independent. Here are a few excerpts from Mr. Dobbs' column for CNN.com this morning:
I can't imagine any one of the current candidates for their party's nomination being chosen by the American people to lead this nation for the next four years. I believe the person elected a year from now will be an Independent populist, a man or woman who understands the genius of this country lies in the hearts and minds of its people and not in the prerogatives and power of its elites.
As I travel around the country, my feeling about the lack of true candidates is validated by those I talk with: They are not excited about the candidates seeking their party's nomination...
...
More Americans than ever before are now identifying themselves as independents, and I hope millions of Americans in the day and weeks ahead will drop their party affiliation and become independents...
I believe that independent Americans will demand a far better choice than any of the candidates now seeking their party's nomination. I believe next November's surprise will be the election of a man or woman of great character, vision and accomplishment, a candidate who has not yet entered the race.
He's not exactly tamping down the speculation.

What the hell is a "populist"? A moderate socialist? Lou Dobbs hasn't a clue about what's really needed, but I agree the candidates who are presently running make me wish for "None of the above" on the ballot.
I am NOT a populist, but a Constitutionalist who wants a non-lawyer, one who understands that it's SCOTUS (Supreme Court Of The United States) [over a long period of time] that got us into this mess because of their failure to adhere to the Constitution.
Ron Paul would be ideal, if he knew how to stop scaring the beJesus out of all the Republicans and RINOs. I don't know of one Demorat that I would vote for under any conditions. They're ALL left of any reasonable center.
Lou Dobbs is a ratings-whore megolamaniac. His grasp of basic economics is absymal. He'd be a disaster for the country. It's pathetic that he even has the following he does. I agree with George Schultz, James Woolsey, and others: Mccain is the best candidate.

The republican and democratic candidates leave a lot to be desired. I hope an independent candidate will emerge soon. The media will only focus on the hypocrites that will say anything to get a vote. So far, there isn't one honest candidate running. It looks like we have to choose between the lesser of two evils. God help us.
A good maxim is never out of season.
