Drudge Calls Out TNR on Beauchamp, Takes It Back Hours Later
Until about ten minutes ago, Matt Drudge was reporting that he had obtained a damning internal document from The New Republic proving that “Baghdad diarist” Scott Beauchamp, who was accused of fabricating portions of war reports he published in the magazine over the summer, had refused to stand behind his stories when top editors questioned him over the phone on August 7th. The article, titled “SHOCK DOCS: THE NEW REPUBLIC 'SHOCK TROOPS' STORY COLLAPSES” was highlighted in red and placed prominently in the upper left hand corner of the site.
Now, the link is gone—no explanation is given for why—though you can still read the story if you click here.
Franklin Foer, the magazine's top editor, could not be reached for comment as he is in all-day meetings with executives from TNR's parent company, CanWest.

Given the confirmed cases of child-rape and elder-murder occurring at the hands of our soldiers, I'm more inclined to believe the diarist.
You people disgust me. You believe every horrible thing ever said about our soldiers and you take every single thing that does go wrong (Abu Ghraib) and endless obsess over it and use it to slander the whole military.
Why? What is your motivation? If you hate America and hate our military and hate our system of government, have the guts to admit it.
"Why? What is your motivation? If you hate America and hate our military and hate our system of government, have the guts to admit it."
What you don't seem to get is that we LOVE America and want to win! But Bush is too stupid to achieve that for the American People.
Obsess over every thing that has gone wrong? What has gone right?
Don't ever question my patriotism!!!!!! I was in the military, were you? I bet not. Just another chicken hawk that believes everything Sean Hannity tells him. Wake up!! Bush is not your friend.
Hate America? You would never say that to my face because you would see how much I Love America. The time for being nice is over!! Punch any Republican Chicken Hawk in the face that questions your Patriotism!!! Fight Back and take the country back from punks like Disgusted!!!
No, what we need are MORE "punks like Digusted." We need fight back against the liberal commies brainwashing Americans. Bush may not be the best president, but he's doing a lot better job than an idiot like Al Gore would be doing.
By the way, I listen to Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh--and I'm proud of it.
You are both idiots who argue in news story comments.
You are both idiots who argue in news story comments.
You can be proud of whoever you listen to, but it still doesn't mean you're right in doing so.
I speak for myself when I say I don't hate our military, but come on, Abu Ghraib wasn't little. Neither was the senseless slaughter of innocent Iraqi families by our Marines. Neither was Blackwater's arbitrary murder of Iraqi civilians. I don't like our administration. It doesn't mean I hate all politicians. No more dumb blanket statements about people you don't know, eh?
Also, comparing George W. Bush to a hypothetical Gore presidency only makes you look like an idiot. Let's leave hypotheticals out of it, and just stick to what's tangibly in front of us. The Iraq War was a mistake (an illegal one) from the start. Trying to find some good in it is like celebrating the fact that someone you raped is starting to speak again.
I still will never figure out that someone so worried about "family values" and "democracy" can ruthlessly destroy a country which did us no harm, and simultaneously trump up support for war with Iran (for having a completely legal nuclear plant). War is not the answer. Diplomacy is.
I Support America: Why bring up Gore? He's not our President, Bush is.
I don't know what Gore might have done, but perhaps he would have gone after the man responsible for 9-11 (bin Laden) and not Sadaam, who had nothing to do with it.
I don't hate America, I just want us to go after the people who attacked us, not some rabbit-chasing adventure in the wrong country that is just getting kids killed for nothing.
We will leave Iraq. It's just a matter of when. What will we have to show for this adventure?
Nothing.
Because we went after the wrong guy for the wrong reasons.
(Or are you one of those people who believe Sadaam was involved in the 9-11 attacks?)
I just think it is horrible that over 4,000 American soldiers have died for nothing...nothing at all. 4,000 lives pissed away over a laughable case for war. Oh it was the WMDs, then it was the 'yellow cake', then it was 'genocide' and then it was 'democracy' and fat under-educated faith-filled asshat Americans sucked it down and smacked their lips.
This war is evil. It is amoral. It is unethical. Bush is now telling Turkey that Turkey must not preemptively invade Iraq in order to stop terrorists who are hurting Turkey. Uh, hello?
Hey, we even let more felons in the military to meet recruitment goals...are we surprised that they act like felons in Iraq?
I agree that war is not good. However, I believe it to be necessary in certain cases. The protection of our country, I would think, should be considered one of these circumstances. Bush made the best decision based on the information that he had. Our country is much safer because of this. Out of curiosity, why do you think our military was sent into the Middle East? The idea it was for Bush's own interests is completely idiotic. Just so you know, more people died in the 9/11 attacks than in Pearl Harbor.
These "felons" in the military, if they really are felons, account for a very small portion of the troops. When crimes are committed/highly exaggerated the media covers it. But the successes aren't. Many people, from both sides of the political spectrum, have reported much improvement in the Middle East. Do we hear about that?
"Just so you know, more people died in the 9/11 attacks than in Pearl Harbor."
Just so you know, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.
"Bush made the best decision based on the information that he had. Our country is much safer because of this."
Pure baloney. Before the war, Bush received an offer from Saddam, who offered to leave Iraq if he was allowed to take a billion dollars with him and his sons. Bush turned him down. You should be ashamed of supporting this crooked incompetent.
When Bush was about to invade Iraq he went on TV and gave Saddam and his sons 48 hours to step down. So I ask you how bad did he really want to take Saddam out? Not much really. If you rob a bank and shoot up the place does the cops call you up and tell you they are coming in 48 hours to get you? No. If Iraq was really about taking a madman out, why give any advanced warning? Wouldn't it be better if Saddam didn't know what was coming? Why has no one ever asked this question? Bush should be put on trial and prosecuted for War Crimes ASAP, and anyone who still supports him as well.
First off the story is gone.

Second, this ain't about Republican vs. Democrats.
It's about Sworn Oath's being broken. Sworn oaths' in the military, sworn oaths' in the government. It's about the constitution being destroyed by criminals. This is about the corporate media publishing fake news, propaganda, and biased news. It's about our elections being rigged by electronic tabulation, disenfranchisement, the media, corruption without accountability and other means. It's about war profiteering, secrecy, and cover-ups. It's about rigging electronics to control the population in every way imaginable.
I tell you this as someone who voted FOR BUSH in 2000, a programmer, an electronics tech, and a veteran of the USAF.
Want to fix these problems, take away the toys, take away the money, take away their corporate media. Get out there and freeway blog, get out there and protest at the network tv stations, get out there and get paper ballots hand counted with public oversight, get out there and take the money away from campaigns.
But whatever you do, get this Republican vs. Democrats crap out of your brainwashed heads!!!!
The North American Union is coming.
The REAL ID is coming.
Your all out of time!
