New York Times'Jennifer 8. Lee Moves to 'City Room' Blog Full-Time
New York Times metro reporter Jennifer 8. Lee, who has been working the night shift for the city section since January 2006, will move full-time to City Room, the Times' local news blog.
Ms. Lee, who has written some of the Times' most widely-read conceptual pieces in the past few years, recently completed her book on the history of Chinese food in the United States, which is due out in March. She will start filing to City Room, which is led by reporter Sewell Chan and edited by metro deputy Patrick LaForge, today.
Here's a memo about Ms. Lee's new job from metro editor Joe Sexton:
To: The Staff
From: Joe Sexton
Subject: Night Moves
Folks,
Bruce Lambert, stalwart of the Long Island bureau, takes over the night rewrite job this week. Bruce will bring his considerable judgment and experience to a job that, depending on the night, can be the most important at the paper.
Jenny Lee, who has walked the night tightrope with great energy in recent months, will join the City Room operation. We think in many ways she is wired for our expanding online wonder, and, well, she and Sewell will not be exactly strangers.
Bottom line is our feet are better planted in our dual worlds. What's not to like?
Joe
