Jodie Foster Likes Rubber Chicken, Media Call Her a Lesbian

This year’s Golden Globe nominees were announced today. And while Joe Wright’s historical romance Atonement cleaned house, garnering 7 nods in this round, there was still room enough for Jodie Foster. After learning of her best actress nomination for her role in Neil Jordan’s The Brave One today, Ms. Foster, 45, apparently reacted with glee. “I can’t wait to have some rubber chicken and listen to the unscripted banter with all of those fine actresses,” she said, according to the AP.

Of course, the operative word here is neither rubber nor chicken; it just has to be actresses. That’s because today is also when CNN.com decided to out the heretofore cagey actress, calling her a lesbian. In the segment, “Jodie Foster thanks gay partner,” (which you can view here), the news outlet’s entertainment correspondent, Kiki King, drew this conclusion from a recent speech Ms. Foster delivered. On Dec. 4, the star of the forthcoming Nim’s Island was given the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award. During her thank-you routine, Ms. Foster acknowledged “my beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss.” She was almost certainly referring to her “best friend,” Cydney Bernard.

Really Kiki, Who gives a rip. Jodie Foster is an icon. She is a very talented person not to mention beautiful. Has she hurt you in anyway? Because, your so-called journalistic abilities have certainly fallen short as good journalism. What you have highlighted is SMUT. I say 'God bless any couple who can stay together and commit for years and years' in this country of the non-committed! Shame on you.

Great for Jodie - everyone should be an individual and no one should judge another. Thank you Jodie!

That CNN "report" was upsetting. Ms. Foster didn't actually "come out" of the closet, technically CNN forced their way in to pull her out.

Annabella (not verified) says:

To quote Jimmy Carr british comedian CNN didn't say..

You're gay right? You're so far in the closet you're having adventures in Narnia.

She mentioned her partner, whose surname is the middle name of Foster's children. She mentioned it in an open forum with journalists present while accepting a high-profile award. What's the big deal? The only thing unseemly seems to be CNN's jump on Foster's statement. Perhaps it would be been more appropriate to ask the actress herself to comment, but it does appear that she's already done that. So why is everybody getting hot under the collar? Does it change anything at all? She's a swell actress, an apparently devoted mother, and seriously intelligent and independent. Lesbian or not, she's an individual worth looking up to.

I just learned Jodie Foster is gay. Duh? It was pretty obvious. Is being lesbian define the woman she is? She is one of the highest paid actresses, has a college degree, is well respected amongst her peers. I remember her brother outing her.

I don't care what a person does in the bedroom, it matter who they are in the heart.

Jodie, just continue to live your life in private. It is no one's business how you live your life and to whom you love.
