More on Those Cuts at NBC

Brian Williams.
Over the last few weeks, we've learned from several reports that NBC is planning a series of layoffs at NBC News and MSNBC. Today, TV Newser provides some names.
According to the site, Davidson Goldin, MSNBC's editorial director; Amy Rosenblum, the senior producer of the 10am hour of The Today Show; Joe Alicastro, a veteran NBC News producer; and Jean Harper, a senior prodcuer at Nightly News who has worked with Brian Williams for many years are all on the way out.
Mr. Goldin's likely departure was first reported last week by The New York Post.

As far as I'm concerned, NBC's Nightly News announcer should be fired.
Announcers generally have voices that are warm, pleasant, soothing, and at the lower end of the vocal range. This announcer's voice is squeaky and anything but soothing.
How he got this cushy, announcing job I don't know? I assume he knows a VIP.
When you think about it, an announcer blabbing: "This is the Nightly News with Brian Williams" is redundant. Does the audience really need someone to tell us this information?
A nice personal touch would have Brian Williams, himself, welcoming the audience to the Nightly News. Not only that, NBC News would be saving the announcer's salary. The intro is on tape, so it's not like the announcer is there at the television studio every evening at 6:30 PM. Whatever they're paying this guy annually for the 5-second taped into, it's too much-- $100,000, $200,000 or $300,000?
amy rosenblum is a snake and a bad person, she deserves to be fired! She is a garbage and trash producer. Everyone here hated her!
She was more concerned about shopping than producing. Plus matt hated her. Also trash should stay producing trash! Where will joan rivers and marlo thomas go now? all the favors she did for her friends defying nbc standards...where are the lawyers?
Why don't you try to be a little less of a bitch karen. i know from working with her and from other people who have worked with her that she is a great producer and she helped the show substantial amount, she has done more with the today show then you will probably do with your whole career, i wont even mention her previous work. And for everyone at the today show hating her, that is a blatant lie, i guess everyone just hates you and your taking this opportunity to take out your anger. As for the true sentiments, amy will be missed by everyone at NBC and as always will land on her feet and continue while you will probably die alone.
Apparently, there is a hiring freeze at NBC as well.
Kudo's to you Karen. Nothing you said about Amy Rosenblum will be much of a suprise to anyone who has had the displeasure of working with her. All I can say is "ditto" to everything you wrote. If Amy was that terrific and the third hour was bring in the bucks and the ratings that NBC really wanted, do you really think that they would be getting rid her? On top of it all, she is not a very nice person, she is rude and very unclassy and trashy, she sabotages people's jobs, brown noses to get ahead. When she worked at Joan Rivers, she had her nose so far up Joan's ass that if Joan made a quick turn to the right or left, Amy would hit the wall and break her nose! Thank God Joan knows a lot of plastic surgeons!
karen and Truth hurts hit the nail on the head here. Amy was interested in promoting Amy. She'll pop up somewhere else, probably at NBC, she's got the right connections and the right agent.
Anon, she was not a great producer. She had the same 17 ideas and she lather, rinse, repeated them, ad naseum. They all centered on the following areas:
Finding a man
Keeping a Man
Spicing up your relationship
Attracting a younger man
Losing weight
The latest in handbag and hair do technology
Get the picture?
If she could have brought over the Paternity Tests Revealed/ Baby Mama Drama over from Maury, she would have.
She was a great producer if you were young and she could work you into the ground. She was a great producer if you had no taste or ethics. She was a great producer if you were stupid. She was a great producer if you were her 'friend' until she threw you under the bus. Yes, by all those standards, she was a fantastic producer. And the most transparent person I've ever come across.
I've never seen someone with their hand out more, for free stuff from guests. Handbags, hairdos, shoes, you name it, it wasn't beneath her to ask for it, or simply take it. She was pathetic, and not a serious person. She will not be missed.
Actually, the office took on a "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead" kind of vibe. Congratulations to who ever made the decision to unload her and her contract.
The other responders--Karen, Truth Hurts and LuvsFunYunz --hit the nail on the head so many times that they have built a tall building of truisms. I am yet another of the UNlucky ones who worked with Amy Rosenblum. All I can say is Hallelujah!!! It is so wonderful to find out that she is FINALLY getting what she deserves. That old saying, "what goes around, comes around!" never seemed to hold true. The most horrible people always seemed to keep moving to the top and were never punished for their remorseless cruelty and cut-throat behavior. That is until now. Since Amy Rosenblum got fired, my faith has been restored. There really is a God!! Amy Rosenblum killed the careers and spilled the life blood of so many hard-working, good, decent co-workers at every place she worked. It is divine justice that she has AT LONG LAST gotten the ax herself. Amy Rosenblum rose to the top in all the wrong ways...she is a genius at sucking up (literally and figuratively) to the "right" people and tossing aside those who get in her way. She is a genius at making friends with people like Jeff Zucker, Katie and Matt and then bad-mouthing them behind their backs. It's just amazing that those bright people never saw through her phony behavior, never saw how they were being used by her.
Amy Rosenblum loves to be the center of attention and get her face on TV as much as possible. She is the consumate star f----er. She is like sugar with those at the top and like poison to all others. She exhibits sociopathic tendencies. She shows not an ounce of guilt or sympathy for all the lives she has ruined. She even betrays her "friends" and those who help her along the way, for no obvious reason. She gets people fired and moved to other shows if they disagree with her. She feels threatened by anybody with a brain. One can only hope that everybody of importance in television, now realizes that they should keep her out of the workplace. If you want the same old same old, then make her your producer. If you like fashion and hair makeovers and more makeovers and more makeovers, then she's for you. If your show enjoys breast augmentation segments, pieces about sex toys, underwear and plastic surgery, she's your gal. Let's pray that the once prestigious TODAY SHOW, formerly watched by Presidents, world leaders and intelligent viewers, will go back to real news. Edward R. Murrow would slit his wrists if he could see what NBC considers a NEWS show. Now that the trash monger is gone, isn’t it a good time to BRING BACK NEWS AND ETHICS TO THE TODAY SHOW? Good riddance, Amy Rosenblum!
CHECK OUT THE MAURY POVICH LAWSUIT! (YOU KNOW THE ONE WHERE MAURY CHEATED WITH THE TRASHY PRODUCER) AMY'S NAME IS ALL OVER IT AND SHE KNEW ALL ABOUT ITMFROM DAY ONE! SORRY CONNIE! SHE IS NO FRIEND OF YOURS! SHE LIES ABOUT EVERYONE! HER NAME IS SMOTHERED ALL OVER AND MAYBE THE HEADS OF NBC WILL REALIZE HOW OVERPAID SHE IS! SHE USED TO TAKE UNIVERSIAL CARS AND SHOP ALL DAY WHILE TELLING HER STAFF TO BOOK PATERNITY TESTS. AND FOR THE AMY FRIEND OR AMY HERSELF WHO TRIED DEFENDING HER A FEW EMAILS UP...AMY WILL DIE ALONE! JUST ASK HER SONS AND TED!
E
Now if the idiot who hired Amy would just go away too. Jeff Zucker can you hear me?
Isn't it amazing how all of us saw Amy's true colors. (everyone except Amy that is) Maybe her firing will be a wake up call to her, and she'll have an opportunity to feel the pain that she's inflicted on so many people. No wonder she is so interested in producing trash, that's all she knows because she is trash. I'm sure all that worked with her are going to miss that screechy voice of hers that grates on anyone listening. Obviously we are all in agreement except for "anonyminus," who probably isn't so anonyminus, right Amy? You rude, delusional, insecure bitch, we are all on to you and have been on to you for years. What a legacy you leave behind.
Amy is hated by all people in television. Hear that George!
She is not welcome at CBS!
There is an old saying that bears fruit after reading the above comments....."Leopards don't change their spots" and Amy has consistently demonstrated that throughout day one of her career. Amy, if you want to know how disliked you are by people in the tv industry, just take a trip down memory lane and count the number of people you have treated like shit, by sabotaging their jobs, instigating the firing of hard working people, lying, stabbing others in the back. The list of people affected by your malicious behavior goes on and on, and crosses the country. That's how many people dislike you at this stage in your life. Good luck finding another job. How does it feel to be fired? Amy, it's high time you got a taste of your own medicine. So, who you will try to next suck up to or spread your legs for? Don't worry, humble, kind, gracious, acting with ethics and integrity are not words that will appear on your epitaph!
If there is a hell, it was built for AMY. She exploited African-Americans, children, the morbidly obese and anyone with a visible disability.
Anonymous, if George heard that, I assure you that he would agree with you!(and the majority of posted comments) The difference between George and Amy is that he learned from his mistakes, and that shallow minded self centered yenta, Amy keeps making the same mistakes over and over and never learns from them and will continue to make them as she continues to trample over people without thinking about the consequences of her actions!....and so it goes.
There IS one person Amy Rosenblum cared very much about and would DO ANYTHING (short of murder, maybe) to help and that was herself. Before she arrived at the Today Show, someone said Amy is known as "the most hated woman in television." Judging from these emails, I guess this was true. Why do people such as Katie Couric and Jeff Zucker like her? Why don't they realize the needless pain she caused so many co-workers and even her own family? Maybe they just go "ga ga" for anybody who flatters them, no matter how transparent and cruel the person seems to everyone else. They must be "blinded" by suck ups. It's so sad that Amy doesn't seem to feel the least bit ashamed or contrite about all the suffering and heartache she has brought to the lives of so many people and their families. In fact, Amy reveled in her power to bring others down. One touch of her evil wand and POOF! the threat would be gone. Amy Rosenblum took great delight in manipulating others to get what she wanted and those at the top kept falling for it!
I only hope that this holiday season, filled with love, joy, good will and friendship, will help Amy finally see the light. I hope that she comes to realize the evil she has meted out to good people who did her no wrong. Please God, help her to repent for all her sins--and there are many. Help her to feel the same kind of anguish she so heartlessly inflicted on others. Help her to comprehend, on a very personal level, just what agony she has put so many people through. Please save others from similar fates and keep Amy Rosenblum from working anywhere ever again. Please let those who hired her and may want to hire her in the future understand how destructive she can be to a show and its workers. Lord, hear our prayer!!
i did see amy backstab and badmouth but in all fairness we aren't there to be her friend. she did what she came in to do and gave the audience what they wanted to see. whether you agree or not the today shows ratings shot up after amy started and they are still up there. she will leave a lasting legacy regardless if us news people consider her ideas trash, it was what the viewers wanted. she originally came in with a positive attitude but her insecurities took over anytime she felt threatened, for no reason. in reality, she had great ideas and is a very smart woman, she just needs a lot of help to improve her self esteem. she is not a bad person, she is just flawed like the rest of us, unfortunately for her she wears it on her sleeve. hopefully this experience will humble her. the only reason she was let go was because she was over paid not because she wasn't doing a good job. say what you will, the woman did get the job done. we may not agree with the way she works but at the end of the day all anyone really cares about in this business are ratings and she brought it.
The above comment was very well written Amy. Even if Amy was making all the money in the world, if she was doing such a great job, and NBC was making more money from adverstisers because the ratings were so high due to her efforts, trust me, she'd still be there. Obviously she was dispensible. She finally has come to a point where she made her bed and had to sleep in it. Hopefully she will sleep in it alone without destroying anyone else's life and hopefully she will finally learn what the school of life has to teach her.
Yeah...Anonymous, well all take up a collection for Amy during this holiday season.sniff sniff. Here's a sac to fill up, anyone got some coal?
someone should count all the favor bookings she did for joan rivers and all her madison ave friends...what a fake and loser! believe me she did not boost our ratings, the talent did. if she was so great, why was she moved from 8 to 11? please.. and as far as katie is concerned, she manipulated her in the hamptons ask lori beecher, who depises amy! I would know, I frequently dine with them! Good BYE Rosenjew!
what a crock this is that she brought the ratings up! NBC News is doing better already without her! Money?? they would sacrifice 3 pa's a producer/field producer or a supervising producer and a receptionist before they fired an ep who had talent!!! I work in business affairs trust me...She must have done something illegal!
One can only wish that a law will be passed that will make it "illegal" to hire Amy!
The comment about the ratings being better because of Amy is such a joke! Anomymous, Amy fed you that shit, and you swallowed. Check the numbers before you open your stupid mouth. You're clueless. Amy is gone, and the rest of her fan club should follow her out the door...all two of you.
I whole heartedly agree with all the negative things that's been said above about Amy Rosenblum. My one comment has to do with asshole above who signed off with "goodbye Rosenjew." I take that as a personal insult to myself, and to the rest of Jewish society. Wouldn't it have been more fitting to have signed off with "goodbye Amytunc."
If you don't get it, spell Tunc backwards. More to the point, without having to insult the rest of us Jews. We don't want to claim her as one of ours either!
All of the above is so true. But we should also realize that the real culprits in most of this are people like Jim Bell, Jeff Zucker and that evil man in NBC human resources, Jim Mills. Jeff Zucker just denies he has anything to do with the firing of people...even Amy Rosenblum. He totally gives his okay but always claims innocence. Why don't you own up to it, Jeff? Jim Mills licks his chops at the prospect of firing people. He should be fired himself. Jim Mills and Jim Bell treat their workers without dignity and had absolutely no compunction about firing anyone Amy disliked. They are ageist, sexist and love to be the bearer of bad news. These people are the ones who did Amy's bidding without checking out the veracity of her lies. These people cavalierly fired people Amy disliked or had them transferred to other shows. Obviously they have no backbone and are so gullible they believe someone as vapid as Amy Rosenblum. Amy was the only one able to infiltrate that nasty boys club at NBC News. Most of them have no morals and treat the minions who serve them, especially women, with disdain.
God forbid you say anything about the Jews. Oy!
Hey TUNC,
Tunc spelled backwards is CNUT.
I don't get it.
YOU Asshole
it you want to post commentary about amy rosenblum and be taken seriously than why would you start a fight on this website by calling people names (jews, assholes etc) it just makes you look like the bad guy. this is supposed to be a forum where people can share their thoughts and feelings and with people fighting on here it defeats the purpose. i wrote the paragraph trying to give amy a fair shot above. trust me, i am not on team amy or a go amy go person. i agree that she did a lot of awful things, i know first hand better than anyone, believe me. i just feel like the anger is targeted at the wrong people. i think the post above about jim bell said it best. that is where the anger should be targeted. he let her get away with her behavior and helped turn her into the monster that she became at the end. but it doesn't change my mind about her creativity and ideas. i strongly believe she did not deserve to work there but not because of her talent simply because of her insecurity and control issues that spilled over into the staff. the place is a ticking time bomb. everybody is walking on eggshells. i don't believe that has to do with amy. i think everybody learned how to avoid her like the plague. i think that's because jim bell has his cronies and if you aren't one of them then you know your days are numbered. nobody is safe at the today show. it is not the institution that is was when zucker was boss. there is nobody to go to bat for you anymore. the team feeling was lost a long, long time ago. it's time to fix the morale in the office. amy is gone and doesn't need to be spoken about ever again as far as im concerned. just fix what's broken and that's the spirit of those who produce the show.
marc victor better be careful how he treats people in the office as well especially now that she is gone and can't protect him. it's time to bring back seniors that actually talk to the staff as co-workers.
Someone above pointed out the culprits are the people who let Amy get away with her malicious behavior at NBC. What about all the other places Amy worked and behaved the same way and did the exact same things!?! I know of many instances where she was responsible for getting other people fired. The list was long at the Joan Rivers Show, she even manipulated Joan to get rid of her executive producer. Big mistake, as soon as he left Joan's ratings went into the toliet and that was the beginning of the end of Joan. Joan has Amy to thank for that, but of course Joan loves Amy because Amy is a carbon copy of Joan and reminds Joan of her younger days. That ain't no compliment folks! Joan sees herself in Amy and Amy sees herself in Joan. It's pathetic. Role models of womanhood they ain't. In fact, they both give women a bad name.
It is so sad that the Today Show, which used to have a family atmosphere, has become a place where people are afraid of one another and where paranoia is rampant. The culture of fear and disrespect has permeated down from Jim Bell and it's a shame. It used to be that the Today Show unit was a team. They weren't just cogs in a wheel. The show was better then because everyone was on the same side. They wanted the show to be the best it could be and Jeff Zucker instilled a feeling of fellowship among his staff. The reason people constantly recall how great it was under Jeff is because Jeff Zucker was a great leader and a superb executive producer. He cared about each person on the staff and showed it. We cared about him. He was straight forward and gave us a high five when we did well and a frown when we didn't. We wanted to do great segments for him because he cared. Jeff treated his staff with respect and because of that, his staff revered him. His gift was not only in producing but in being able to create an atmosphere of trust and inclusion. Too bad the current regime has absolutely no idea how destructive their way of managing can be. Jim Bell's rude and uncaring behavior creates a staff with low morale. This is not the kind of leadership that leads to great ratings.
