New Bloomberg for President Web Site

On the heels of the latest speculation about Michael Bloomberg as both a presidential and vice-presidential candidate, Karin Gallet, self-appointed organizer of the Draft Bloomberg movement, has launched a new web site.

The new site, Unite for Mike, features a poll asking visitors why they want Bloomberg for president. As of 7:30 a.m., there were 44 votes.

The breakdown:

He is fiscally conservative: 7 % (3 votes)
He is socially moderate: 5% (2 votes)
I don’t, the status quo is alright with me: 5% (2 votes)
All of the above: 80% (35 votes)

Another poll asked, “Would you vote for an Obama Bloomberg ticket?”

Results:

Yes, because Bloomberg should be president: 83% (5 votes)
Yes, if they run as an Independent Ticket: 50% (3 votes)
Yes, if they run as Democrats: 17% (1 vote)
Yes, because Obama should be President: 0
No, Bloomberg’s talents are better used elsewhere: 0

The website also has its own companion blog written by Boston-area resident Michael White. Via email this morning White told me:

I'm just a concerned citizen who thinks Bloomberg should run because he'd be a great President who'd provide non-partisan leadership and get things done. I started the Bloomberg Blog because it seemed like there was a need for a site that keeps track of all the latest news and speculation."

In a later email he added that he is a high school senior, and "will be old enough to vote in 2008."

Nice article! It's great to see the Draft Mike Bloomberg movement really picking up steam!

Tom (not verified) says:

bloomberg sucks as mayor and had to buy his way into 2 mayoral terms.

His record sucks as mayor and his racist and misogynist views of people will only serve to sink any further political ambition combined with his failing record as mayor.

Go Buffs (not verified) says:

Tom speaks of supposed misogynistic and racist remarks yet makes no direct reference to such instances. I invite Tom to provide some evidence rather than making such unsubstantiated comments.

naro (not verified) says:

Bloomberg is the finest mayor in my memory, but beyond that he is a good and decent man. His business skills and social responsiblity will make him the best president in history. He is a real man not just a PR image. I hope he runs and make his mother and me happy.

Jerky (not verified) says:

Anyone who thinks Bloomberg is 'racist and misogynistic' with a 'failing record as mayor' is obviously delusional. He's pretty much socially liberal, fiscally conservative, and doesn't give a sh*t about the standard quo of politics-as-usual. My only criticism would be his somewhat blind support of the NYPD, even when their actions were blatantly illegal or dubious, regarding protesters and demonstrations.

Run Mike Run (not verified) says:

As a New York resident myself, I can say that Mike is an exceptional mayor. His approval rating among New Yorkers is over 70%. He is a non-partisan, candid straight shooter. He is also a self-made billionaire. He is about as far from a politician as anyone I've ever seen in politics. He is pragmatic, and much more concerned about results than dogma. He is exactly what this country needs. If he enters the race, he has my vote.
