Is Spitzer Making Gay Marriage First Task In '08?
As we mentioned earlier today, the Post has a story that claims Eliot Spitzer wants to make a major push for gay marriage.
The article is based on an anonymous source who quotes Spitzer saying,at a fund-raiser in Greenwich Village Wednesday night, that the first thing the Dems will do when they take over the state senate in '08 is pass gay marriage into law.
Spitzer does support gay marriage, but it would certainly be a surprising move for him to declare it his top priority, just as he withdraws two controversial proposals.
The story does acknowledge that people characterized Spitzer’s remarks differently. In his account of the remarks, progressive blogger Phil Anderson called the quote “a lie."
But characterizing gay marriage as a top priority for Democrats in the state Senate does fit with what Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm Smith said earlier this year.
At the Empire State Pride Agenda’s fall fundraiser at the Hilton, Smith told the audience:
Does anyone have more info on what happened at the fund-raiser?
