PARTY ANIMALS: Earth Day isn’t officially till tomorrow, but we imagine Al Gore is already squeezing into his “fun” pants. Today, zoos (roar, says Mr. Lion!) and aquariums (glug-glug-glug, says Mr. Fish!) around the country have earth-y events: Central Park Zoo struts out its “animal ambassadors,” two folks named Gus and Ida, to talk about shrinking ice caps and other scary stuff; the Bronx Zoo, in what is clearly a titillating marketing move, will let you meet Jose, the Bronx River Beaver; the Prospect Park Zoo’s special guests are the endangered Hamadryas Baboon family—yikes! Not too far away, the smudgy-pants people in Park Slope—oh why oh why hasn’t a flaming comet fallen on this neighborhood yet?—have a recycling day, where you can recycle everything from clothing and crayons to cell phones (no word on Bugaboos). Be sure not to miss the recycled fashion show or the lecture on composting and garden tips. Sigh. We’re trying not to hold the environment responsible.
