If you can’t afford a beach house but still want to spend the day with your bare feet in the sand, why not help clean up a really dirty beach and then get loaded?! Win-win! At Surfer’s Beach over in Rockaway, Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation arrange for two solid hours of cleaning followed by two and a half hours of drinking (hic!) and eating at the nearby Pier 92 Restaurant and Bar. Meanwhile, down at the South Street Seaport, there’s free (!) fun to be had thanks to the evil geniuses at Target, who sponsor Children’s Day and fireworks. There, Gordon (we love that guy) from Sesame Street will host stage performances from favorites like Dora the Explorer, Rebecca Frezza and Big Truck, and—randomly—John Lithgow’s The Sunny Side of the Street, followed by fireworks. Ask Gordon just where the heck Snuffy is these days. Seriously.

[Beach cleanup, Surfer’s Beach, Rockaway Beach, 4 to 6 p.m., Barefoot Celebration, Pier 92 Restaurant and Bar, 377 Beach 92nd Street, Rockaway Beach, 6:30 to 9 p.m., www.barefootwine.com; Target Children’s Day and fireworks, South Street Seaport, through June 17, www.southstreetseaport.com.]
