Keeping the Spotlight on Spitzer's Emails

Dear Governor Spitzer:

   Yesterday, I chaired a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Investigations and Government Operations.

     The purpose of the meeting was to explore whether legislation is
needed related to issues arising out of the Attorney General's report of
investigation dated July 23, 2007.  During the course of that meeting, it could not be determined that any effort has been made to preserve e-mails that may be pertinent to the question whether state resources were used for political purposes.

     Accordingly, I respectfully request that you direct all members of
the Executive Chamber, the hierarchy of the State Police and senior
officials at the Office of the Inspector General, including the Inspector
General, to preserve any e-mails created using government or personal e-mail addresses which would otherwise be destroyed.
