Weird, Secret Senate Dem Staff Meeting on May 1

This is odd.

All Democratic Senate staffers are being called to Albany for a meeting on May 1st about some kind of “staff development,“ according to two knowledgeable staffers.

As one source, who learned about the all-hands meeting in an email, told me, “I don’t think district people usually go up there. Very bizarre.”

One Senate staffer who confirmed the meeting told me “it is unprecedented.”

A call to Senate Minority leader Malcolm Smith’s office was not immediately returned.

Here's the memo:

FROM: Senator Malcolm A. Smith

SUBJECT: Democratic Staff Meeting

DATE: April 24, 2007

There will be a luncheon meeting of all central and district staff on
Tuesday, May 1st, 12-2PM. Please invite your staff to Albany for a
presentation on our agenda and our second quarter goals. We will meet at
the Carole Huxley Theater in the NYS Museum. The Museum is accessible
directly through the Concourse Level of the Empire State Plaza.

You may wish to keep a "skeleton" crew in place so you have minimal
district office coverage. In addition, please encourage car pooling.
