Scott Stringer Fund-Raiser at Butter

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, whose 2009 intentions are still not clear, is having a fund-raiser at the chic Lafayette Street restaurant Butter on January 9, according to an invitation a reader sent me.
Tickets range from $50 to $1,000, but the invitation says “Members of political clubs and students can purchase tickets at the reduced price of $45.”
Speculation as to which office he’ll seek can be made here for free.
Members of the host committee include: Jennifer Cunningham, an influential advocate for 1199; Patrick Gaspard, another prominent labor leader; Risa Heller and Ryan Toohey, both consultants at Global Strategies; Allen Roskoff, an outspoken gay rights activist; Maura Moynihan, daughter of the late Senator; and Brice Peyre, an aide to Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.

When Scott Stringer went up to Albany I had high hopes that the supposed "west side liberal" would be a reformer, someone who could shake the power structure and actually be true to ideals. What an utter disappointment--a wasted decade spent serving as Shelly Silver's mini-me, taking handouts from lobbyists and "glad-handing" interns. People who watched his time in Albany know that any thoughts of higher office are absolutely delusional.
not to mention the fact that he sold out the Manhattanville/W. Harlem communities to Columbia University.
Isn't he praying to the gods of Iowa that Hillary does well, becomes the Democratic nominee, so that his mentor Jerry Nadler becomes a Senator and he gets to run for his seat? That's a much more attractive alternative than running for any city wide seat that a million other people have already decided on running for.
Miranada - what are you smoking? Nadler has a better shot at becoming a marathon runner than the US Senator. I am sure that Spitzer and Patterson have already cut a deal that Spitzer would appoint him to be the next US Senator -- why else go through the hassle of running for Lieutenant Governor?
An accuser who hides behind anonymity in vague claims with no evidence has no credibility in my book. You imply you're standing up for something by calling yourself a Watchdog, but your anonymity implies you lack the courage and conviction to put your name behind your words. Anonymous accusations are pure cowardice and hold no weight whatsoever. That's why our court system (and some media still) give the accused the right to confront their accuser.
