Feel the tumbleweed …. Savor a blissfully empty Sunday in the city …. The Film Society of Lincoln Center gives us a chance to see the Stanley Kubrick classic, 1975’s Barry Lyndon, on the big screen. A “pristine” 35-millimeter print, timed and supervised by Kubrick’s longtime assistant, Leon Vitali, will screen over the next three days. Check out a young and hunky Ryan O’Neal (and try to forget that Mr. Kubrick’s last filmmaking experience involved Chompers). Meanwhile, HBO is really going to make us sweat out the last two episodes of The Sopranos. No fat Tony for us tonight; instead, HBO shovels out Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (no, thank you!), which begins with the Sioux victory over General Custer at Little Big Horn. Aidan Quinn—who seems to get more handsome as the days go by—stars. Better start preparing yourself for a Sopranos-free universe now. Even worse: prepare for The New York Times’ Virginia Heffernan, Alessandra Stanley and Ginia Bellafante to write—a lot—about what a Sopranos-free universe means to them personally and to us “as Americans.” Dear Lord, please let Frank Rich stay out of this one. It’s enough to make you want to roll your S.U.V. with Tony as your passenger ….
