When did all the artists disappear and get replaced by art stars? Ryan McGuiness, painter of decorative graffiti, unveils a “kaleidoscopic wonderland” (uh-oh) of mixed media work to a rapt audience of art world insiders wearing the skinny ennui-filled jeans of 1978 at the Pace Prints Gallery in Chelsea. Expect to see polished couples ten years younger than you scooping up inscrutable metal sculptures for their “collections.” A more inward crowd flocks to the opening exhibit of Tibetan teacher and artist Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche at Tibet House—serenity now! On the other end of the mood spectrum, publicist Peggy Siegel has recovered from her overheated Hamptons summer and hosts a screening of Reservation Road, the Joaquin Phoenix/Mark Ruffalo film (not to be confused with Revolutionary Road, the forthcoming Leo DiCaprio/Kate Winslet picture) In this one, Jennifer Connelly and Mira Sorvino play the biscuits. Expect plenty of big shots: Peter Olson, head of Random House, James Schamus, head of Focus Features, and the film’s director, Terry George. And if it’s fall, it must mean people are giving their time and money to good causes: It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, and there is a luncheon today for “Global Breast Cancer Survivors” at the Rainbow Room, featuring Avon head honcho Andrea Jung and 50 survivors from all over the world.
[Ryan McGinness at Pace Prints, Oct. 4 to Nov. 6, 521 West 26th Street, 212-629-6100; “Natural Vitality” opening at Tibet House, 22 West 15th Street, 6 p.m., www.tibethouse.org; Reservation Road screening, 1210 Second Avenue, 7:30 p.m., by invitation only; Avon Foundation Global Breast Cancer Survivors Day Celebration, The Rainbow Room, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 64th floor, 12:30 p.m.]
