Times Opening Party on Monday Open Only to Some

Last night, New York Times reporters were treated to tea and cake to celebrate the opening of their new Eighth Avenue tower. But on Monday, the real party starts, when the paper holds its official opening celebration. That event will be limited to the masthead, advertisers, "government officials" and select Times superstars.

The vast majority of the staff, not invited, will have to accommodate them.

According to a memo:

On Monday evening, Nov. 19, we will host the official opening of our new building for advertisers, government officials and other invited guests.

In preparation for this event, the 40th and 41st Street entrances will be closed beginning on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 a.m. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, all employees and visitors must enter and exit the building from Eighth Avenue.

Thank you for your cooperation.
