Swing Low ….

This article was published in the June 18, 2007, edition of The New York Observer.

TUESDAY, JUNE 19TH: Yet another sign there’s just no avoiding summer—Lincoln Center starts up their Midsummer Night Swing, where determined folks who just never quite got over that 90’s craze dress up in full skirts and red lipstick and dance it out at the Josie Robertson Plaza. Tonight’s festivities will be hosted by hunky Sam Champion. George Gee & His Make Believe Ballroom Orchestra and David Berger & the Sultans of Swing (!) will revisit the golden era with such songs as “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” and “Until I Met You.” Ladies, if you like men in hats, this is the event for you! Meanwhile, we think we might be able to blame Britney Spears for this one, but apparently there’s a new book called The Manny (sigh) by Holly Peterson. Tonight Ms. Peterson will be discussing at the Barnes & Noble Lincoln Center (so close to the crazy swing dancers!) just how she came up with the idea of a 36-year-old woman becoming attracted to the 29-year-old man she hires to care for her children. Gargh.
