Urban Outfitters Looking for First Brooklyn Location

Urban Outfitters in Brooklyn?!?!? Well, not yet, but the Philadelphia-based chain famous for patchouli-smelling candles and gimmicky t-shirts is looking.
"We have been in negotiations for a space at a building on Atlantic Avenue in Dumbo," Wade McDevitt of McDeviit Company, Urban Outfitters’ broker, told The Observer. "We looked at a building on the corner of Atlantic and Court Street, but the asking rent was too high."
Urban Outfitters is also looking in Williamsburg, Mr. McDevitt noted, but not where people think.
"I can't give the address, but we haven't even been in the building that people are talking about," Mr. McDevitt said. "We are kicking some tire in that neighborhood, though."
That "building that people are talking about" is 100 North 6th Street, formerly home to Coyote Recording Studios.
"We definitely believe that there is room for an Urban Outfitters in Brooklyn," Mr. McDevitt said. "Whether or not it is a one-store market or a two-store market is unclear."
The Brooklyn store would be the eighth outlet of the chain in the metropolitan area, and its first in the borough.
