Mark Wallinger walks the 'perimeter line' of his installation.
Mark Wallinger has been named the winner of the Turner Prize for his replica of Brian Haw's 2001 anti-war protest in Parliament Square, State Britain. Dennis Hopper presented him the £25,000 award at a ceremony at the Tate Liverpool gallery last night. Mr. Wallinger first made the shortlist in 1995, but lost out to Damien Hirst.
Every detail was copied from his tarpaulin shelter and tea-making area to the messages of support and hand-painted placards.
It is said he employed 15 people for six months to make State Britain.

I don't know what that is but it isn't Art. It is just another anti-war protest. It is free speech perhaps, but please don't call it art. You give real artists a bad name.

He may have been able to oust Hirst on this one, but Damien will continue to play a more prominent role in the art world, as exemplified by this recent list of "Boldest works of art in recent history"
