Here's one we never thought we'd see. Because you've been clamoring for it, a musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho will be coming to the Broadway stage sometime in 2010. Cue the Huey Lewis!

David Johnson, one of the producers for the stage version, said his inspiration for the project is largely due to the economic divide in this country, proving that you can indeed bring everything back to the economy if you so choose. That's an odd statement, because we remember American Psycho being about class and status in the upper crust. Perhaps Mr. Johnson is thinking of Grapes of Wrath (now there's a text you can sing and dance to!)

All kidding aside, it is a bit hard to imagine either Mr. Ellis' book or the 1999 Mary Harron screen adaptation starring Christian Bale, really translating to the musicial stage. But the producers promise to bring original '80s-inspired songs the story of Patrick Bateman, as well as classics like the aforementioned Huey Lewis, Talking Heads and, of course, Genesis ("This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.") so at least the songs will be good.

As of yet, no director, book writer, songwriter or star has been signed onto the project, leaving the hope that perhaps they can get Christian Bale to revive his role. Even if they can't, we'll be interested to see how this turns out. It's not every day you get the chance to see a naked, chainsaw0wielding maniac chasing a hooker around on a Broadway stage. Break a leg!
