Hair in Central Park Extended Through Sept. 7
Yay! More rock musical Hair for you! The Shakespeare in the Park production at the Delacorte Theater has extended its limited engagement to Sept. 7. It was originally set to run until Aug. 17. Then last week the Public extended it until Aug. 31. Now, there's an extra week to get your dose of peace, love and those hott Hair boys.
In a statement, Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis said, "During a rain delay at The Delacorte Theater last Saturday, the audience chanted, 'Hell no, we won't go!' Now the company of Hair is chanting it right back. I am delighted to say that the overwhelming demand for Hair has led us to extend the production for another week. I am thrilled that this musical has struck such a nerve with our city."
Maybe it's all the drugs? Also, fun tidbit: you can bring your own snacks and wine! It's frugal theater-going for the economic dog days.
