Todd Solondz Set to Creep Us Out Again
Creepy director Todd Solodnz will be making another movie for the misanthropes. He just got financing for a kind of sequel to Happiness, the 1998 dark (dark!) comedy that haunted us for weeks thanks to its creepy masturbation scenes. A new indie production and finance company Werc Werk Works offered up the cash, Variety reports. But they can't even describe what it's about. Here's what they're saying:
Solondz wrote the screenplay, which revolves around a group of struggling individuals, struggling to find a place for themselves in an unpredictable and volatile world. The narrative is told through a series of intersecting love stories; the past haunts the present and imperils the future: ghosts circle and loom, trouble and console.
Um, what? Aintitcoolnews reports that Mr. Solondz once called the movie Life During Wartime and is considered a "companion piece" to Happiness and 1995's Welcome to the Dollhouse (which we actually tolerated and kinda liked).
Rumors have been circulating for years about the new project, with Emma Thompson, Demi Moore and Paul Reubens attached as potential stars. But casting hasn't been announced just yet. Filming is expected to start in October in...Puerto Rico.
