Club Divided Between Fossella's Challengers Endorses Neither

Last week I reported that an endorsement vote at a Democratic Club in Bay Ridge was split evenly between Vito Fossella's two official Democratic challengers, Domenic Recchia and Steve Harrison.
The president of Brooklyn Democrats for Change, Peter Carroll, emailed me over the weekend to say that because of the 25-25 tie, the club will not support either candidate. Carroll added, “Unless something major happens (like [F]ossella resigning) we will not be meeting until our petitions are printed. Right now our next meeting is scheduled for June 2 the day before petitioning starts.”
Carroll said the more politically interesting story, albeit on a much more local level, was the club’s endorsement of Dilia Schack for female district leader in the 46th Assembly District. According to Carroll, this is notable “because Dilia's opponent Jeannie May is the [f]ormer President of the club and is a founding member of the organization. She prominently features us on her literature and Dilia won the vote 3-1.”
Schack, you may recall, was an interesting footnote to the 2006 Attorney General's race, when the Brooklyn Democratic County leader had an aide chase Shack all the way to an airport in Buffalo in order to secure her vote.

Dilia is only a political hack. Her Male counterpart mark Davidovich is her gofer & chauffeur. Ms. May is a change candidate that this community needs very badly to restore faith in the process.
Mrs Shack is another cog in the Brooklyn machine. It just squeaks along, doing nothing for the people. Mark ...what can you say about how little he has to offer. You Brooklyn clubs are getting what you deserve by supporting a broad range of inferior candidates
Indeed, Ms. May is a founding member and former President of the Brooklyn Democrats for Change, but the club, under Kevin Peter Carroll's leadership is not now what is was formed to be and most of the progressive members and former members no longer belong to the club or attend meetings. This club has become just the opposite of what it set out to be, that is, another group of rubber stamps for the political machine of Brooklyn. No doubt the vote was engineered to achieve these results. Ms. May has every right to cite her involvement in the founding of this club and past leadership but she will succeed without their support or endorsement because she stands for the change so desperately needed in the Brooklyn political process.
When I originally joined this club I expected it to be a great voice for the Democratic Party in Brooklyn. Instead the monthly meetings turned into wars. You would walk out of there shaking and the leadership of Kevin Peter Carroll is the reason for this. Ms. May is a former president and a community activist who will win in November despite this club not supporting her. As for the non endorsement a tie vote for Congress, this could have only happened if the club was packed and I'm sure that's what was done. How could 25 people vote for a candidate the never met and never heard speak in the person of Dominic Recchia?
Calling Brooklyn Democrats For Change a "reform club" is completely erroneous. It is merely a platform for the closeted Meglomaniac Kevin Peter Carroll. He packed the club with family members and seniors at $10 a pop for whom he or his dad paid for, after they failed to take over Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats. Whomever serves Carroll's interests is who the club supports.
Dilia is a nice enough person, but supports the county leadership lock, stock and barrel. They made her get off a plane in Buffalo to change her proxy from Green to Cuomo in the AG's race and she did it. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Noach Dear's judicial run and I quote from the literature "Noach Dear always fought for justice for women, children and seniors. I urge you to vote for Noach Dear for Civil Court Judge." As many recall Mr. Dear was determined to be unqualified by the Brooklyn Bar, not to metion the fact that he was a vicious advocate of injustice for the LGBT community, and never practiced law a day in his life.
Of course, Jeannie May would not the candidate of this club. She is too decent and honest a person.
I am a member of Brooklyn Democrats for Change, and I'm not afraid to speak under my own name. The five other posts currently listed on this comments page appear to be the work of the same individual, who while not hesitating to make false statements and accusations and to "name names," apparently is too cowardly to provide us with her own name.
I would therefore submit to anyone reading these anonymous comments that they are neither worthy of belief nor reply.
Obviously the person who wrote this has no idea about politics or the political system. You write "Ms. May is a former president and a community activist who will win in November". The election is in September, it is a primary between 2 democrats, before you write such statements know the facts please. People like you are the reason why we are in the bad situation we are in today. Ignorant people should not vote, so please do everyone a favor and stay home.
In case anyone had any question I am replying to the Anonymous article who wrote on May 12, 2008 8:51 PM.
Dear P, P, et al,
Your postings of May 12 make you sound like the bearers of truly sour grapes. As to your disinformation about members who renewed for ten dollars at the senior, unemployed, student rate, there was but one member who renewed at that rate in the 45 days before the endorsement meeting: your candidate. As she was born in 1954, she must be unemployed or a student. She is seeking a party office that is not salaried. If she is unemployed, how will she find the time to campaign for office while seeking new employment? If she is a student, how will she be a credible candidate when she may not be able to find the time away from her studies? If elected, how will she have the time to perform her duties while studying? You have been learning from Karl Rove: the hero is portrayed as coward and the deserter as heroic. Blame the other side for your own deficiencies. By the way, is your “decent and honest” candidate unemployed or a student?
In keeping with your attachment to the Rovian School of Disinformation, you blame the victim for the unpleasantness you created when trying to disrupt meetings and calling people names you thought were disparaging (e.g., “Rasputin”). After throwing stones, your subsequent surprise at being disciplined is disingenuous. When the rat pushes the wrong button, he need not consult BF Skinner as to why the electric jolt arrived; he just needs to behave properly. It is ridiculous to complain about the presiding officer dealing with a disruptive influence in an appropriate fashion.
Your criticism of Ms. Schack for her endorsement practices is also disingenuous. Is it your present employment that prevents you from saying the same thing about an incumbent candidate for state senate who was endorsed in the same meeting?
Your allegation of a pack is another piece of disinformation. The club has a 45-day rule before a new member can vote and the only folks who came in to cure their expired memberships at the endorsement meeting were from your small fraction.
There was a democratic process. The meeting was well attended. The process was manifestly fair and the vote count was conducted in the open and observed by interested parties.
Both Democratic candidates for the 13th Congressional District arrived with serious flaws in their histories. One gave campaign contributions to Vito Fossella and Marty Golden; the other supported Noach Dear. One of them once described himself as the most conservative candidate on the stage in a special election for city council but, like another P, fell off his horse on the road to Damascus and had an epiphany; the other has not had the benefit of such a concussion. It should surprise no one that there was a tie vote for lesser evil or more likely be elected against a damaged incumbent. Now that Vito of Family Value fame has left the race, perhaps an electable candidate will throw his hat in the ring. Although I voted for the fellow who had the epiphany and currently holds the more progressive positions, I am grateful for our opportunity to support someone new who can win in November.
The time came long ago for you to smell the coffee. There is no need to continue this kind of hostility. You have been told this repeatedly but have chosen to ignore the advice. The club moves forward in supporting progressive politics while recognising realpolitik. Brooklyn Democrats for Change is growing with enthusiastic new members from a broad demographic. The future is bright.
Sincerely, Grigory Yefimovich Novykh
As I wrote in my recent book Critique of Pure Reason, certain arguments preclude others. The Brooklyn Democrats for Change Endorsement meeting was well attended by the General Membership, and representatives of all sides were there. No one chose to challenge the voting procedures at that time, and that constitutes a priori proof that the endorsements were legitimate.
Truly yours,
Immanuel Kant
