Bloomberg Aligns Himself With the Carrie Bradshaws

Yup, Mike, that's a look you want to know better.

Yup, Mike, that's a look you want to know better.

A couple of nights ago at the CFDA fashion awards, our mayor, who was honored for his support of the fashion industry, told the Daily News: "I have been displaying some extra flair over the last 6-1/2 years. All kidding aside, I have been walking the greatest runway in the world: New York City." And then he added, "Unfortunately I had to wear this reasonably boring tuxedo tonight. My skinny jeans are at the cleaners and my gladiator sandals are being resewn."

Hmm ... Gladiator Sandals

Though the image of Mayor Mike in skinny jeans and strappy glads is hard to erase from the mind, we must admit we've always thought Mayor Bloomberg stood out with his muted ties and nicely fitted suits, standing up by the podium next to Ray Kelly and showing up his entire team. Or when he goes for the tie-less dress shirt with the top two buttons undone even while talking about certain collapsed cranes.

But he is having a remarkably fashion-conscious run of it lately. It was just last week that the mayor publicly revealed being mildly peeved that the producers of Sex and the City cut him out of the film, by telling the same joke during various speeches not twice, not three times, but four times!

"I was originally supposed to have a part in Sex and the City, but my scene wound up on the cutting-room floor. It turned out that they wanted more sex and less city. That’s fine. Their loss." Right! We know!
