Bloomberg Would Keep Disagreement With Spitzer Quiet

Michael Bloomberg has said that he gave a crucial infusion of cash to the Republican majority in the New York State Senate because they support New York City’s agenda.

Today, the mayor’s budget director said the city is in for an economic “direct hit” because of cuts proposed by Eliot Spitzer.

During a Q&A today at City Hall, I asked Bloomberg if Spitzer’s proposed budget cuts were the sort of thing that might lead the mayor to make another political contribution.

“I supported Republicans because they have been there every time we asked them,” Bloomberg said. He went on to say that any disagreements with Spitzer “will be dealt with either at [the] staff level, quietly without telling you, or directly between me and him, without telling you.”
