Can NYC Catch Up To South Africa's 'Super-Luxury' Condo Car Elevators?

A few days ago, while South African-born Elliman senior vice president Leonard Steinberg was traveling around his homeland, he sent this missive to The Observer:

“Just inspected a brand new car elevator being used in a super-luxury building in Cape Town of all places, and no-one batted an eyelid! New York has to snap to attention!”

We asked for a picture, and he added that he's seen “Bentleys, Range Rovers, Rolls.....”

But Mr. Steinberg is biased when it comes to his gushy feelings on car elevators in high-end condos: He and his partner Herve Senequier are the marketing agents for 200 Eleventh Avenue, where the apartments come with “New York’s first En-Suite Sky Garage.” Each condo has its own elevator-accessed 300-plus-square-foot parking space--bigger than this writer’s entire apartment.

Will car elevators be a part of New York’s high-end real estate future? In the meantime, if you have $17,500,000 lying around, 200 Eleventh’s penthouse and vertical parking space are open.
