Chaka Khan Joins Color Purple Cast
January 9, 2008 | 4:34 p.m
Chaka Khan is, indeed, every woman, including Sofia in the Broadway Theatre's production of The Color Purple. Gospel singer Bebe Winans, who had a small role in The Manchurian Candidate, will also join the cast tonight. Check here for tickets.
Jan. 9 also marks the first performance of newcomer Zonya Love as the beleaguered Celie who learns to love herself and others. Love is also making her Broadway debut, assuming the central role recently vacated by "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino.
Ensemble member Montego Glover officially takes over the role of Nettie Jan. 9 as well.
Matinees of The Color Purple will now feature "American Idol" finalist Lakisha Jones in the role of Sofia. Jones currently performs the role of the Church Soloist.
