Clinton Superdelegate Maloney on Procedures and Rules

June 3, 2008 | 11:54 a.m.

I just asked Representative (and Clinton superdelegate) Carolyn Maloney which is a better indicator to determine the Democratic nominee: the popular vote--which the Clinton campaign says it is winning--or the delegate count.

"We have to follow the procedures and the rules," Maloney said, after an unrelated press conference on the City Hall steps. "That's how we determine the Democratic nominee. And the procedures and the rules say the delegate count is what we rely on, so that is what will be the determination."

Independently, when I asked Representative Greg Meeks, another Clinton superdelegate, about the disputed A.P. report this morning that Clinton plans to concede the race for delegates tonight, he responded through a spokesperson: "We all back whoever is the nominee."
