Cost-Savings Suggestions

Here's Doug Turetsky of the Independent Budget Office yesterday, explaining what to expect from the report his office put out about possible cost-saving measures the city could take.

Among the suggestions: voting by mail (to save $7 million annually), levying some kind of restaurant tax ($34 million annually), eliminating public funding for private-school text books ($9.4 million annually) and charging more for film and television permits ($7.4 million annually).

Turetsky doesn't think much of my notion that the city could also save money if more lawmakers worked for the same salary as Michael Bloomberg.
