There Goes The Neighborhood: Crown Heights Grocery Turns Organic

If there's anything more symbolic of a neighborhood's gentrification, well, we can't think of it: Nam's grocery on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights is going organic, according to Brooklynian.com.

The red-awninged grocer at the corner of Franklin and St. John's Place has been closed for a couple of weeks now, with all sorts of mysterious-looking work happening inside. Apparently, Nam has been busy outfitting his space and stocking it with eco-friendly groceries.

"In addition to going organic, they've told me they are also going to be open 24 hours & carry beer!" wrote one well-connected Brooklynian commenter on the Web site.

The avenue has seen plenty of other changes in recent years, including the recent arrival of Bristen's Cafe by way of Clinton Hill, and the opening of the decidedly upscale Saje at Park Place.
