Daily News Sports Columnist Lisa Olson Quits

Longtime Daily News sports writer Lisa Olson has quit the paper. A spokesperson confirmed the news to Media Mob and said that she "informed us recently that she would like to pursue a different career path and a different style of writing."

But according to the sports blog, The Big Lead, that's hardly the only reason. The Big Lead reports that the Daily News did not include Ms. Olson on a list of reporters to cover the Super Bowl and she stormed off. The blog reports that there was a dust-up between Ms. Olson and and the "New York office" after columnist Mike Lupica switched story ideas on deadline during the Giants-Packers NFC Championship game and she had to quickly scrap a new story together.

When reached by phone Daily News sports editor Leon Carter would not comment. We've got emails out to Ms. Olson and Mr. Lupica and we'll tell you if we hear anything.

Dear Mr. Leon Carter,
Lisa Olson a very excellent reporter / columnist was accosted back when by these same NE Patriots (how ironic the team name)and Zeke Mowat, and now the mighty Lupica screws her over and her employer,THE DAILY NEWS, kicks in by not sending her to the NY Sports Story of the YEAR.

Good for you Lisa. Best Wishes. Let them crawl back to you. You deserve better.

The chick-literacist Lupica (his sports novels for little girls are the nadir of literature) reaches up and takes another scalp.

Lisa Olson was a terrific columnist. She inadverently always had a subtle new insight into a topic or personality on which she was reporting. I certainly know no backstory but believe that as the only female covering the two biggest sports at the NEWS her articles on the Giants/Super Bowl would have been fun to read. Maybe this was just the last straw? I read the News daily, for sports only, and will truly miss her. Perhaps its not too late to lure her back?

Not as familiar with Mike Lupica's history, but has he always been this cowardly? Why would he not step up and admit his role in this and fight to get Lisa to the Super Bowl? Is he really that intimidated by women?

Lupica is a no talent, pipsqueak. He makes so many grammatical errors in his columns, it's scary. Lisa Olson will quickly get a new job. I just hopes she stays in New York.
