David Marash, a former longtime ABC Nightline correspondent has quit Al-Jazeera English, where he has worked as an anchor for the past two years, the New York Times reports today.

In January of 2006, when Mr. Marash first joined the nascent English-language satellite news channel based in Doha, Qatar, he told the Observer that “their news standards seem to me to be very similar to our news standards.”

Apparently, Mr. Marash no longer feels that way. According to the Times, Mr. Marash felt that recently an “anti-American sensibility,” has been “creeping into” the network's coverage.

Tracy Nieporent (not verified) says:

David Marash has been one of America's preeminent journalists for over 30 years. He has reported from every corner of the globe, and whether he was on Channel 2, ESPN, or Nightline, I've always found his work to be informative, balanced and entertaining. He brought class and credibility to Al Jazeera, and that organization is severely diminished by his departure.
