When Albany Dysfunction is a Good Thing

Here’s another clip from this morning’s panel discussion at the New School about Eliot Spitzer’s political prospects.

Here, seen-it-all political operative Bill Cunningham explains that if Democrats take control of the entire state government, there may be a desire to bring back some of the “dysfunction” Albany’s legislature has long been known for.

PaulNewell (not verified) says:

A much better defense mechanism against the culture of failure in Albany, no matter which party is in control, is a functioning democracy. When our legislators are actually concerned about losing their jobs, they will not "overreach", whatever that is.

In any event, we already have one party rule in the legislature. The "Majority Party". The big money interests (mostly developers - but others as well) fund Senate Republicans and Assembly Democrats and have for decades. And lo and behold, we have a government that puts the concerns of developers ahead of citizens.

New Yorkers need to rid ourselves of Sheldon Silver and Joe Bruno in 2008. We've never had a better shot at it.
