Early Republican Attack on Spitzer

Judging by their relative silence so far, it seems that New York Republicans are, by and large, still weighing how best to leverage today's stunning news about Eliot Spitzer. But not U.S. Congressional candidate Lee Zeldin, who is running for office in the First Congressional District, which includes part of Suffolk County and the Hamptons.

From his office:

MASTIC, NY (03/10/2008; 1555) Today we are stunned to learn of Governor Eliot Spitzer's involvement in an elicit prostitution ring. I condemn the immoral and deplorable actions of any elected official who engages in such conduct. As a former prosecutor, magistrate, military officer, and most importantly, as a husband and father, I am deeply offended by his utter lack of leadership, integrity and selflessness since taking office in 2007. I have prosecuted prostitution related offenses that have endangered the stability of organizations and the responsible parties must be treated seriously and punished accordingly. Furthermore, I call on my opponent, Congressman Tim Bishop, to publicly sever ties immediately and condemn the conduct of his Democratic colleague and donor. He should join me in demanding that Governor Spitzer immediately resign so that the New York State government can move forward towards a better tomorrow.

I wholeheartedly agree. Spitzer has to go; he is filth (and a Democrat, same difference.) This is such a great day, I feel like singing tunes from the Sound of Music!!!

IT SHOWS HE THINKS HE'S ABOVE THE LAW. HE HAS SHOWED HIS ARROGANCE SINCE HE TOOK OFFICE. TIME TO RESIGN.

Spitzer's conduct is unforgivable and he should resign. But what the heck, he probably learned from Slick Willy that he is above the law. He should be more careful next time, is all.

What are we to make of this? Spitzer has brought shame on the state; he must fall. Maybe the voters will be more cynical before voting for a guy by 69 percent; no politician deserves that percentage of the vote, I don't care if he's Jesus Christ.
Calling Governor Bloomberg, calling Governor Bloomber.

Resign already. I don't know what he's waiting for. It's reported he lawyered up. State Republicans, to their credit, have given him a deadline before impeachment proceedings begin.
What a schmuck.

I think he should act now to outlaw many of the laws that constrain consenting adults and now that he knows the total information awareness is in place, and can be used against anyone we the people of this State with our Governor should oppose all of the programs including Real ID. The laws that they tagged him on are unconstitutional and the Federal Government should not be involved in morality. We can try to promote individual liberty or show how prude we can be and try to humiliate him into resigning.

Lee Zeldin is absolutely right.
The real problem is the HUGE lapse in judgement exhibited by Spitzer. His use of an escort service opens him up to blackmail, extortion, etc. Believe me, anyone involved in national/state security capacities would immediately have their clearance revoked. This is unacceptable-I just can't believe that someone so smart could make such bad choices. I really do believe that more facts about Spitzer will come to light that also warrant criminal investigation. From the sheer magnitude of his idiocy here, I tend to believe that he has been involved in other things.

Good for Zeldin and I hope he does well for himself. NY(both state and in Congress) needs principled and honest leadership.
