Elizabeth Edwards Says John Did It For John

It certainly seemed last night that John Edwards had thrown his lot in with Barack Obama last night in his attempt to get Hillary Clinton out of the race as soon as possible, defending the Illinois senator fiercely against her criticisms.

But Elizabeth Edwards said that her husband did it, Drago-like, for himself.

“John was defending that he actually is a change candidate,” she said after the debate at Saint Anselm College. “Every time we have someone saying they are an agent of change, someone from the status quo comes along attacking them.”

So, she said, her husband came to the rescue.

“John was standing up for change more than standing up particularly for Senator Obama.”

She also said that the race could very well end up being between Edwards and Obama.

“The likelihood is that we have three for a while, but Senator Clinton’s argument has been inevitability and experience are going to be the things that carry her to the nomination. And I think it is clear that they are not going to bring her the nomination. That’s why she talked today about change and things like that, she had to find a different tack.”

Edwards said she didn’t think voters would buy the new direction.

“Maybe she can sell it, but 35 years of change, when people don’t actually see change, don’t see change in the underlying problems with the way government is working, in fact when things have gotten worse over the 35 years, I don’t think is a successful argument.”

As for the notion that Edwards' couldn't get much further after losing his supposedly must-win contest in Iowa, she said, “We’re going to the convention. Seriously, we’re going to the convention. We’ve got to. “

John Edwards is doing fantastic, considering the media blackout concerning his candidacy. The media is doing everything with in their power to ignore him and frame this as a two person race.

Talk about perpetuating the status quo.

Up til last night JOHN EDWARDS wasn't even on the screen for me. Last night he became my candidate, and I usually vote Republican. The reasons he became my candidate is because he spoke about his success in reining in corporate greed and abuse, his participation in drafting the patient's bill of rights, and curbing insurance abuses which have been causing the deaths of citizens of this Country all over various states, and the need to provide for our troops who are sleeping in the streets this winter. I have been an advocate of the free market my entire life, but FREEDOM VOID OF RESPONSIBILITY is not what I mean, and corporations have demonstrated for too long that greed is their only measure of success, putting the rest of us into poverty and early graves. I loved that John Edwards is standing up to and against the lobbyists. He is the agent of change we need, and he has the experience to prove it.

John Edwards is the only candidate who spoke with passion during the the New Hampshire debates. Especially when asked why he wanted to be president, there where no measured pauses or calculations in his response, and the rapidity and rhythm of his words, the way that he spoke in unbroken sentences, these to me revealed the true conviction from which he spoke.

I don't agree with John Edwards on every issue, but I would trust him as President, and would seriously consider voting for him in the general election even though I'm a Republican.

The media and the pundits were trying to write John Edwards off for a long time and created the Obama frenzy. They gave Obama a free pass on issues and portrayed John Edwards as an angry man. Listen, We are not selecting a rock star or celebrity. We should select a president that will fight for the american people.

If I could bore your readers with a metaphorical explanation, the problem with Senator Clinton's version of change is that the way she's being going about it, and will continue to go about it, is akin to bailing a battleship with a teaspoon. And she's not even trying to plug the hole that's sinking the ship.

Senator Obama might go so far as to at least use a bucket. He might even start working on the hole.

But John Edwards version of change is more like hooking up the ships engines to the bilge pumps and turning them wide open, AND plugging the holes that are sinking the ship.

What's this "35 years of experience" that Hillary claims ? She doesn't even have a "security clearance". Obfuscation is her methodology...

Without clicking the link, I know what "Drago-like" means: From Rock IV, when the Communist boxer starts to lose to Stallone and gets notice of disapproval from the higher apparatchiks, he yells out something like: "I don't fight for you; I fight for me!"

It's probably a somewhat dubious distinction, that I understand that reference; let's hope I'm in the minority.

I´m not american citizen. In fact I´m from Latin america, and I could say that J. Edwards simbolyzes the kind of president that american deserves.
He works like a common people does and he fights against status quo.
The main democratic election problem is about what Hillary-Obama represent?
Is the time for a woman or a black man in the Oval Office?

Why not a pacifist and economy leader man like J. Edwards?

I am baffled at how a self-described Republican can support John Edwards. He is even more liberal than Mrs. Clinton. Study the issues and each candidate's stances carefully. Study Edwards' record and study who supports him. By the way, study who supports Gov. Huckabee. I think all the candidates have a lot of 'splaining to do. Once the field narrows, the questions will get harder. Good thing Mrs. Clinton got her tears out now -- she can certainly not afford them later. As for who is the "change agent," no one is pledging to carry through with all of President Bush's track record so it's a meaningless claim. A change from Bush to Thompson, for example, would be a bigger change than Bush to any of the top 3 Dem candidates. Study, listen, and dig into the details. We are too willing to applaud the performance and like the performer when the real story is beneath the surface.

JOHN EDWARDS is my ONE AND ONLY choice for this presidential nomination, no doubt about it! I love him! I think he's amazing, and unlike the other two, not full of sh%$!!! He is the only one who has plans for universal health care to rescue the millions of dying Americans who are powerless against the power of the big corporations, and as Michael Moore so clearly pointed out in his documentary Sicko, the health insurance companies. He wants to get our troops out of Iraq, within 10 months! None of the other candidates, unless we see them on their knees and dying for a nomination, would even utter those words!! He's brave, he's intelligent, and he stole the show as by far the most sincere, serious, and capable candidate to handle this countrie's state of being during the New Hampshire debates. And, honestly, if he gets elected, he will be in my opinion, without a doubt, the HANDSOMEST PRESIDENT THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER SEEN!!! Marilyn Monroe would be in a TIZZY!!! Lol I can just hear her singing, "Happy Birthday, Mr. President.."

But that's beside the point (unless you're a member of the female sex!).He's the best and most capable candidate in this election, and I personally back him 100%!!! GO, JOHN, GO!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!! Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm praying for him to win!!! THE SEXIEST, GUTSIEST, MOST INTELLIGENT, AND MOST PROMISING FOR CHANGE CANDIDATE OF '08!!!!
