Katz Event Shows Off Diverse Support

Council member Melinda Katz, a candidate for city comptroller, is having a June 19 fund-raiser that will showcase strong support from black and Latino lawmakers.

The elected officials on the host committee for the event include Yvette Clarke, Jeff Aubry, Jose Peralta, Maria del Carmen Arroyo, Maria Baez, Helen Foster and Melissa Mark Viverito.

One of her strongest opponents is Adolfo Carrion, the only Latino in the race.

It’s worth noting that Arroyo, Baez and Foster are also, like Carrion, from the Bronx.

The invitation also includes a number of big real estate people who sit on Katz’s finance committee: Douglas Durst, Peter Kalikow and Richard Ravitch. Katz recently said that her connections to the real estate industry are an asset to her.

Is Peter Kalikow now Russian?

The only typing that's worse is Liz Benjamin's blog.

An asset for Katz? She lost my vote.

She is definitely the frontrunner against a bunch of boys! I read Adolfo is looking for a job in the Obama administration already.

Wow, she is the hottest public official I have seen in NYC!

Is she single?

Peter Da Great (not verified) says:

Not only does she have the looks, she has the brains too!

She is one of the smartest legislators I have ever met. She left a lucrative job at one of the top law firms in the world to serve in public office.

We need more Melinda Katz' to run for office.

By the way - she is a single mom too! Kudos to you Ms. Katz!

Did you see Melinda Katz is going after the Hispanic vote?

She is taking it directly to Adolfo - and it isn't with a bunch of political hacks - these are REAL successful businesspeople!

Great move Melinda.

Melinda is a great and inspring person who will bring New York together to help create better finances and maintain a strong economy. Seeing that she has the support of not only Maria Baez, but also business leaders like Alfred Placeres is indeed demonstrative of her abilities. This woman is going places!

Whoo, she makes me blush when I see her at City Hall.

Yes Adolfo hustling for a job in Dc already, it's true. What a fool. The rest of his gang in the Boro Hall are desperate now that he won't win an office here and hire their incompetent butts in NYC but will just fly the whole coop and leave them to deal with the Rivera's and the rest when they lose to the Fosters.
