Maria Shriver Endorses Obama

LOS ANGELES—This could be big.
Maria Shriver, the first lady of California (wife of Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger) just endorsed Barack Obama on a stage here at an event at UCLA with Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and her cousin Caroline Kennedy.
Shriver, the daughter of Eunice Kennedy, John F. Kennedy's sister, said that above her computer in her office she keeps a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt that said “Do one thing every day that scares you."
“Eleanor, wherever you are,” Shriver said. “This is my one thing for today.”
Echoing Winfrey, she said that she was following her “own truth” as she spoke admiringly of Obama as the candidate who could best unite the nation.
“I’m standing here because I want to be here,” said Shriver. “I wasn’t on the schedule and I thought to myself when I woke up this morning, there is no place I should be but right here today.”
She said her decision was literally a last minute one, and that this morning, her daughter, a first time voter, said to her “If you think you can help, if you think you can change just one person if you think you can make a difference, then go.”
“I am here today as a woman and as a Californian,” she said and added, “The more I thought about it. If Barack Obama was a state he’d be California.” She said he was diverse, smart, open, independent, a dreamer and a leader.
“California has a primary that has been moved up, it is at the epicenter of change, we can lead, we can lead this country,” said Shriver. “I would ask you to go out and follow your heart, and remember that so goes California, so goes the nation.”

wow, that takes a lot of guts!
I tuned into C-Span late. Missed Caroline and Oprah, but Michelle was blowing me out of the water. Then she introduced Maria Shriver. I died and went to Nirvana.
I admire her for her courage and strength. This should be a message to us all!!!
FIRED UP ... an understatement!
What a powerhouse group of women!
Here is our first woman president: MICHELLE OBAMA !!!
Umm...who cares? She holds no office, it's as if a house wife in Tuscaloosa stepped out and said, "Ah support the black man running fer prezident." Big deal. McCain will be Obama or Hillary come November. You heard it here first.
All of these women spoke more eloquently and coherently today than the current President has in 7 years -- on ANY subject. They are able to speak extemporaneously and thoughtfully about the subjects that matter most to REAL Americans not in elitist (right or left) bubbles of privilege. All of these women are accomplished INDEPENDENT OF THEIR SPOUSES or any man. That alone puts them ahead of Hillary Clinton. The fact these accomplished and independent women are validating Barack Obama speaks volumes about his respect of strong, successful women...for real, not just for show as with the Clintons. The Obamas will not distract us from the Nation's business with their personal drama(s) and/or put a FOR SALE sign on the Presidency and Lincoln Bedroom.

Thwack!
All four knocked the ball out of the park!
Michelle Obama, especially.
My thought: Why isn't SHE running for president?
Then I thought: Oh no, let's not start that again!
At some point, a great woman candidate will emerge without the albatross of a "co-presidency."
Let's hope it happens in the next eight years, following Barack.
The thrill of hope!
Is there anything quite like it?
The truth is that no amount of denigration can drag down Mr. Obama's message of hope, which he has been touting since grassroots days in Chicago, Illinois. The sourpuss who thinks that Maria Shriver's message is similar to that of a little-educated housewife in America's backwater areas shows the lack of respect for all people, and the sore want for knowledge about the first lady of California's solid education, accomplishments and blessings, aside from marrying one of America's best Republican governors. Shed the cynicism and enjoy the process of seeing the last days of Bush in the White House. Go Barack! You have my vote in New York City today!
