Today, Bloomberg L.P. officials named Andrew Lack as their new C.E.O. of the company's multimedia group, which, according to the press release, is "responsible for the Company's expanding television, interactive and radio operations."

More from the release:

"Andy Lack is a news legend," said Bloomberg L.P. President Dan Doctoroff in making the announcement. "His extraordinary accomplishments at NBC and CBS News and his innovative work in the entertainment industry at Sony Corp. qualify him uniquely to lead Bloomberg's multimedia businesses."

Mr. Lack will be joining Bloomberg in the midst of a tumultuous time in the business world. According to a 2001 article by The New Yorker's Ken Auletta, Mr. Lack is a news chief who enjoys the challenge of covering a major crisis.

From Mr. Auletta's article:

Andrew Lack was the president of NBC News for eight years, and near the end of his stint, he says, he would "complain all the time" to Tom Brokaw and others that his tenure spanned Presidential elections and the war in Kosovo but never a really "big story." His "big" stories were the tabloid narratives: O.J., Diana, Monica, Condit. Like other news executives, he aggressively, and sometimes mindlessly, pursued these stories. That all changed, of course, when the planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. The networks suspended their regular programming and substituted news for the first ninety-plus hours of this new war, exceeding the continuous airtime they had devoted to the assassination of John F. Kennedy or to the start of Operation Desert Storm.
