Senior McCain Adviser: Palin Did 'Fantastic' With My Buddy Katie

Before Nicolle Wallace took over the role of senior adviser to John McCain’s presidential campaign, the wrangling on the evening news in recent weeks over Sarah Palin’s performance in interviews with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric might have been the kind of on-air debate she relished.
“Governor Palin did fantastic,” the 36-year-old told The Observer in a telephone interview on the afternoon of Oct. 6.
But since she took on this high-level communications job with the campaign in May of this year, Ms. Wallace has had to relinquish her spot as a G.O.P.-credentialed commentator for CBS News.
Her analysis would have been provocative: In the aftermath of the Palin-Couric encounters, pundits took turns pummeling the Alaska governor’s apparent lack of preparation and arguing about just how much the interviews had damaged her credibility as a vice presidential candidate.
Even many conservative pundits have been using the 24-hour cable-news gabathon to criticize Ms. Wallace’s employers for agreeing to them. On the morning of Sept. 28, William Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard, appeared on Fox News Sunday and eviscerated the strategy. He accused Ms. Palin’s handlers of adopting a “total defensive crouch” that was “typical of the Bush White House.” “I think the McCain team has pursued a bad strategy for her, relying mostly on the broadcast networks, with an incomprehensible leaning toward the last-place network, CBS,” wrote Byron York on National Review Online.
“They’ve totally mishandled her for the last week or two,” said Mr. Kristol. “Don’t talk to any conservatives on talk radio or on television. That would be just talking to the people who might vote for you. Go get quizzed by Katie Couric and don’t make a mistake.”
“People might not agree with all of her views,” said Ms. Wallace. “But I thought she was a forceful advocate for her views. We were very happy with that.”
Ms. Wallace said that she was struck by one aspect of the criticism. “I am most fascinated by and curious about what is at the root of the vicious hate-filled commentary coming out of so many of the women in cable news,” said Ms. Wallace. “It’s something I’ve never seen before. I find it startling and stunning.
“My personal theory is that she’s something that they can’t grasp,” she added. “They don’t know how to process her. She is beautiful, accomplished, successful, pro-gun and pro-life. They’ve never seen all those things in one package. She totally disorients many in the liberal media, especially a lot of the women.”
Those talking points aside, Ms. Wallace’s position in all of this puts her right at the center of the controversy. Before joining the McCain campaign in May 2008, Ms. Wallace spent nearly two years serving as a conservative political analyst for CBS News. There, she worked intimately with none other than Katie Couric. While Ms. Palin has since criticized Ms. Couric’s handling of the interview, Ms. Wallace seemed unwilling in her conversation with The Observer to lump her former coworker in with the rest of the catty female anchors she feels are unfairly thrashing Ms. Palin.
Ms. Wallace originally joined CBS in the fall of 2006 after serving as communications director for the White House in Bush-Cheney’s second term. At the time, the relationship between CBS News and the Bush administration was severely strained, thanks in no small part to the fallout over Dan Rather and company’s flawed reporting on President Bush’s military record.
But according to several CBS News sources, upon joining the Tiffany network, Ms. Wallace quickly established herself as a valuable and well-liked member of the newsroom. What she lacked in terms of on-air experience, any producer who met her would agree, she more than made up for by her good looks, her quick and articulate response to the cameras, and of course, her extensive background in Republican political circles.
Over time, according to sources, Ms. Wallace grew particularly close with Ms. Couric, and became a sort of symbolic central figure in the warming relationship between CBS News and Republican Washington. Next Page >

It's not that the liberal media -- especially women in cable -- see Sarah Palin as "something that they can’t grasp." It's that they know exactly what it's like to be propelled into a higher pay grade based more on their looks and appeal than their skills or experience... and it threatens them on a very basic level.
Nicolle Wallace says “My personal theory is that she’s [Palin] something that they can’t grasp,” she added. “They don’t know how to process her. She is beautiful, accomplished, successful, pro-gun and pro-life. They’ve never seen all those things in one package. She totally disorients many in the liberal media, especially a lot of the women.”
Wallace is way off base because the media has not had a problem dealing with Condoleezza Rice, who is also attractive, accomplished, successful, pro-gun and pro-life. Katie wouldn't ask Condi what papers she reads because the whole interview would be taken up just with the list of papers Condi reads every day. Condi has a Ph.D, is a Stanford professor (on leave) and has read more books in one week than Palin has read in her entire life. Condi has never had problems answering questions from the media. Being a government official, Condi can be very evasive in responding to questions she can't or doesn't want to answer, but she does it in the classic diplomatic style of justifying why a question can't be answered, not the "I'm not going to answer questions I don't like attitude of Ms. Palin." Palin was clearly selected as an affirmative action hire to counter Obama's position as the first African American white house candidate and to appeal to upset Hillary supporters.
"Grasping" Palin is like grasping sand...
I just have to point out that Condi Rice is not even marginally attractive. Has anyone really forgotten her Palin-esque, moose-in-the-headlights performance at the 9/11 hearings? "I believe the title of the report was "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the United States."

Corsi had promised a news conference that would "expose details of deep secret ties between U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and a section of Kenya government leaders, their connection to certain sectoral groups in Kenya and subsequent plot to be executed in Kenya should Senator Obama win the American presidency."
Sen. Barack Obama with Raila Odinga
Corsi was set to show Obama and Odinga have been in direct contact since the senator's visit to Kenya in 2006. He was to claim Obama advised Odinga on campaign strategy and helped him raise money in the U.S. for the Kenya presidential campaign.
Corsi was to report Odinga's 2007 presidential campaign strategy called for exploiting anti-Kikuyu tribal sentiments, claiming victory and charging voter fraud even if the campaign knew the election had been legitimately lost. Odinga, Corsi said, also was willing to fan the flames of ethnic tribal tensions and use violence as a last resort by calling for mass action that led to the destruction of properties, injuries, loss of life and the displacement of over 500,000 Kenyans. The purpose was to compel the Electoral Commission of Kenya to declare him the winner or enable him to declare himself the winner by force.
Even though Odinga has not fulfilled his campaign promises to the Muslims who voted for him, he continues to cause concern among Kenyans because he has not declared his position on Shariah law, Corsi said.
Corsi said Obama remained in active phone contact with Odinga through the New Hampshire Democratic Party primary in January. The Illinois senator continued to support Odinga, he said, turning a blind eye to an agreement signed with Muslims and the post-election violence instigated as part of the campaign strategy

Firstly, Ms. Wallace, grammatically , Palin did fantastically, not fantastic. You are a journalist? Perhaps YOU and PALIN should get together for some instruction. If her performance was "fantastic" I shudder to think how you would feel if she did "poor".
Anyone who has a remote idea of what has happened in the last year in Kenya would understand that the current unrest is the worst political crisis there since the early 60's when Kenya was fighting for independence. In the recent conflict, what started as political protest quickly turned into something much more dangerous: ethnic conflict. That's because the election was also a competition between the country's two largest ethnic groups--the Luo, who support Odinga, and the Kikuyu, who back Kibaki. The two groups have been wary of each other since Kenya achieved independence from Britain in 1963, and the Luo have never held the presidency.
In January this year U.S. State Department was following developments in Kenya and Obama, working with them, spoke with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
Mr. Obama, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee whose father was Kenyan, also spoke with opposition leader Raila Odinga in Kenya. Mr. Obama asked Mr. Odinga to meet directly with the president without any pre-conditions, a spokesman for Mr. Obama’s spokesman said.
“He said the country would see the message that both you and Kibaki do not want chaos and that violence on all sides must stop,” said the spokesman, Robert Gibbs. “If the country sees you talking and a willingness to resolve this political situation peacefully, a powerful message will be sent to the people.”
Mr. Obama had been involved in talks between the United States and Kenyan leaders. He conferred with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during that period, aides said, and on then discussed the conditions with Mike Rannenberger, the U.S. ambassador to Kenya.
Mr. Obama, whose grandmother and other relatives live in Kenya, visited the country in August 2006. He held meetings with several government leaders. He spoke directly to the Kenyan people in January in an interview on Voice of America radio.
“Despite irregularities in the vote tabulation, now is not the time to throw that strong democracy away,” Mr. Obama said. “Now is a time for President Kibaki, opposition leader Odinga, and all of Kenya’s leaders to call for calm, to come together, and to start a political process to address peacefully the controversies that divide them. Now is the time for this terrible violence to end.”
Obama's role as a member of the foreign relations Committee trying to prevent ethnic conflict and violence through promoting direct discussions between the two opposition leaders made sense as a clear strategy to prevent further violence.

John McCain can only really win this election with a SOLID ECONOMIC SOLUTION.
I can help take OHIO, Michigan, and nationwide votes for Senator McCain..
Strangely enough, contacting the campaign gets ZERO response. Should Sen MCain lose, which seems to be materializing, understand that its because people do not communicate very well. Hindsight can be quite cutting.
I have nothing against Obama..except I feel his economics policy is dangerous.I contacted the Whitehouse too, offering a FIX to the global crisis - response ZERO. Perhaps there are too many 'experts'there.
I'll eventually pass the red tape..but bureaucracy kills. What a sad day.
I challenge the world leaders, their best economics team, and any 'expert'on the planet.
I tried contacting Crystal Caballero, and numerous other McCain camp people...The campaign is on a serious down..Please help me get a message direct to Sarah Palin or John McCain..The outcome of the election depends on it..Everything seems to be so insulated and I cant get a message across.
The winner of this election, is the one that provides the economic solution..Please help me reach John McCain..there are only days left, and this campaign is going south..the campaign can be WON..Its so down to the wire now..and Ive been trying to reach McCain for months..
I'm waiting on a communication from Congressman Ted Poe, but the clock is winding down fast..
I can provide a Global, Non Nuclear Energy Solution to FIX the broken US economy, and that of the falling world markets. I can make sure the steel and engineering plants of Michigan, Ohio and across US kick into gear again. I can make sure that peoples 401K's and savings are all protected, and that they will appreciate in value again. No amount of capital flushing, will change the falling markets now..or months from now, because every co that is 'bailed out' represents a 'fake' balance sheet not built by profitability...it just fronts taxpayers money, that will get eaten by expenses, and no growth to recover.
EVERY expense known to you , hinges on the price of energy, as that determines what you pay in transport, and production costs.
In a very simple reason - the 'credit crunch' you experience has only one reason : US job losses. The problem is not because banks loaned excessively etc..Even if you borrow $10k..and have a lower paying job, that is ok..as long as the sustained job, allows you to repay. Exposure happens, soon as that repayment cannot be met. If a person loses a job, they cannot pay for a thing. If you just take 50 000 people, having an average mortgage of $150k , and perhaps repaying on a car and a few other minor things on credit, and lets say thats $200k allround. 50000 x $200k already gives you an off the chart figure. US unemployment is now around 750 000 and climbing daily. Even this $700bn injection still means that financial institutions will lose thousands of jobs.
Look at the realities..GM is on the verge of collapse..Other institutions will soon emerge that also need finances..where does it stop?
Right now, you know the alternate energy forms of the norm: wind, solar and biofuels being the main ones. I will just take one example: wind
The average 1mw wind turbine is costing taxpayers an average of $1.2million a pop. Technically, you can research it, and you'll find the power output is overrated ..so, current estimates show that the taxpayers will be set back a few trillions, but Wind Power will NEVER offset oil dependance, or even provide anything close to what US requires.
If you just do a little research, you'll see that, for all the alternative methods known, energy costs are RISING..but for some reason they call it 'affordable'clean energy :)
I can provide the US federal govt with a full , clean, non nuclear energy solution.
There are 2 stages to the generation
1- Full, uninterrupted cyclic generation of electricity.
2- Semi Cyclic generation of electricity converged over time zones.
This means a very wide flexibility. In both methods, the voltage output EXCEEDS the COMBINED OUTPUT of wind, solar and biofuels with the kicker being, its possible to engineer and implement at a fraction of the price you are now paying for eg. wind farms and solar farms. In a nutshell, Im saying you can get 1000X the power of all alternate known methods, for a fraction of the price now being injected into alternatives.
Do not believe people like the EU commissioner, or any other dumb politician in the world that says the age of affordable energy is over. Most politicians are morons, and probably enjoy the perks of walking on red carpets, and hopping into limousines..but they can solve nothing in their emergency talks and global initiatives.
I was sad to see US taxpayers lose $700bn ( because that will evaporate into loss really)
Energy Solutions do exist, and just because scientists and professors don't know it , or cant get it does not mean its not possible. If you do not see US earn its energy security, its not because its not there..its because nobody listens. If I write your state depts and government on a National Security issue...they have 'autoresponders'..so, where is that human component to receive important communications??
Remember Im saying..oil dependance will drop..you can have cheap electric fuel cells for cars..and your investments and savings will be safe again. The high price of energy will fall, because you will begin to actually have 'affordable' clean power. Your carbon emissions will drop, as petrol powered vehicles are systematically removed.
NEW Concept: The generation of unlimited ,daily, clean electricity into the national power grid, in volumes that, with implementation, will outstrip the combined output of wind and solar energy - Concept currently UNKNOWN as alternate energy provider.
I wrote to the UN and some governments/gov depts/EU commissioner etc, on a global energy solution that with implementation will provide more electricity than wind/solar/biofuels COMBINED.
Here are a few aspects :
Type: Clean, non nuclear solution with guaranteed outputs, and minimal loss.
Method: Currently UNKNOWN among the known methods of alternate electricity generation.
What I am saying : The entire energy generation methodology of the globe will change.
Oil Dependance : Guaranteed to drop systematically
Emissions : Guaranteed to drop systematically as less use of petroleum, automatically reduces carbons.
Cost Effective: In comparison to what is now being spent on wind, solar, biofuels - implementation costs less. Models can be flexible for developed/developing countries.
Development: Because of the flexibility, it gives developers entire new direction , unlimited to a single standard.
Environment: Minimal impact. Carbon emissions will be reduced on a large scale.
Economic impact: Basically, the economies of the globe will be able to regenerate within 7-10 years. Low cost electricity, available daily and abundantly allows all sectors of societies to progress.
Drawbacks:
One aspect is not possible to implement in wartorn areas with damaged or no basic infrastructures. This drawback does not apply in developed countries like US , UK or EU.
Richer countries will need to assist poorer countries with some developments.
Monopolistic govts, who are always quick to see 'profits' will have the ability to still charge high prices, so it will need possible international regulation .
Developers, who are also quick to hike prices for installation of even affordable stuff, will want to be quick to exploit the concept for financial gains, rather than implement with a reasonable margin, for the actual purpose of unlimited electrical generation to be realised..and their reasoning will be because of what it provides, in terms of generation capability, and profits .
Because of the sudden demand, even the producers of affordable components and materials will try to exploit the concept.
Pre- legislative work is required in congress to ensure that 80% of the work happens within US, or greed will ensure that unlegislated, US citizens will be marginalised in the face of greed, searching for cheap components.
Positives:
The energy output is guaranteed,daily.
Energy is possible from what I shall term a partial cyclic, and full cyclic.
Surplus can be channelled into storage too as the capability to store powergrows, especialy in remote areas.
Only govts have the capacity to really roll out the concept, and how it should happen countrywide..so it is possible for them to regulate all departments/private sector/industries aligned etc beforehand.
Only govts can allow the basis of implementations.
Only govts can oversee maintenance/upgrades/technology advancements because power generation is a matter of national security.
US will meet its emissions targets.
------------------
The above are just basics..I can list it all in much greater detail .
1- Launching the concept requires a global energy summit. Only UN or a specific govt has the power to command that.
2- The concept payment is to be made by strict pre-agreement with the US Federal Government.
3- All developed countries can utilise it, and even developing countries ..but it is not possible in wartorn regions like Darfur etc, unless they stabilise . Its possible if the installations are secure.
4- The scale of the concept, has a global application, and can allow meeting the unrealistic targets now set, in 7-10 years. At current, you know wind, solar, hydro and biofuels combined cannot reduce oil dependance.
5- Concept implementation, is guaranteeing daily renewal of electricity into national grids, with minor fluctuations of maybe 3-10% ,with the capability to expand implementations with minimal environmental impact, and flexible modelling.
6- I am saying: If eg.1GW is the rated output from one installation, then that 1 GW is guaranteed with only a small fluctuation , daily. This is the secondary output capability. In the main installation capability, power is produced on a continuous ,uninterrupted basis .
7- In 7-10 years, it will allow approx 60% of petrol powered vehicles vehicles to be totally removed. Electrical fuel cell will be a simple reality, because the electricity is fully available, by clean power.
8- Oil will still be necessary , but not as it is now, in such high global volumes.
9- There are different stages of developments- The main installations will deliver totally uninterrupted high energy , and the second stage developments offer determined periods of guaranteed output. The environmental, architectural, structural ,technical and related capabilities of the concept implementation ensure many different co-operative developments.
