Bluesy rock singer Josh Kelley, 28, who recently married Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl, was sitting in his dressing room at Roseland Ballroom on Friday, Feb. 29. “After we got engaged, I wanted to understand all these different emotions I was going through. So I wrote songs about my girl,” Mr. Kelley, wearing frayed boot-cut jeans and a gray knit turtleneck, told the Transom. “I would send her songs all the time being like, ‘I wrote this for you, baby!’”

Those songs ended up on Mr. Kelley’s fourth studio album, Special Company, a self-produced collection of feel-good jams for the Dave Matthews set. The album’s lyrics seem indeed heavily influenced by his relationship with Ms. Heigl, 29: lots of sappy one-liners like “I let her know / Everywhere we go / She’s unbelievably sexy”; and “Kissin’ those lips got me feelin’ so freaky inside.”

The couple met three years ago, when a pre-fame Ms. Heigl was cast as the female lead in one of Mr. Kelley’s music videos. Their “winter wonderland” wedding took place on Dec. 23, attended by 80 family members and close friends, including the bride’s Grey’s co-star, T.R. Knight. Now, after three years of heavy touring and a honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mr. Kelley said he’s ready to get back to L.A. and enjoy some quiet time in the couple’s recently purchased Hollywood Hills abode. Well, maybe not that quiet. “The other day, we were moving furniture into our new house, and there were about 15 paparazzi outside,” he said. “I just turned around and said, ‘Are you guys really gonna just stand there, or are you gonna help us?’ And they actually all put their cameras down and helped move furniture. Maybe they’re not so bad after all.”
