Moby, Byrne, Lou Reed to Speak Up! About Iraq

Hey, New Yorkers, where is your revolutionary spirit? Lou Reed, David Byrne and Blonde Redhead are wondering why our city of "visionaries" isn't rallying against the war in Iraq. Well they've got a solution: a SPEAK UP! concert in DUMBO.

"New Yorkers have always been visionaries," claims the release for SPEAK UP!, which will take place at St. Ann's Warehouse on March 18. "SPEAK UP is a way to begin to reclaim the voice of our city as revolutionary, awake, and democratic. SPEAK UP is meant not only to encourage empathy and compassion, but also to provide New Yorkers with concrete options for action. In this benefit concert, New York musicians will be joined by speakers from the worlds of politics, media, war and social justice in a call for action." Those musicians and speakers include Laurie Anderson, Antony, Norah Jones, Moby, Damien Rice, and the Scissor Sisters, as well as Mr. Byrne, Mr. Reed and Blonde Redhead, who will be coming together to mark the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion. There will also be an exhibition of photos from "Alive Day Memories," portraits of soldiers injured in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.
