Manhattan Democratic Clubs Make Surrogate's Endorsements

All three Manhattan Surrogate's Court candidates won something last night when a number of different Manhattan Democratic clubs held endorsement votes, according to two people who work for different candidates.

Judge Milton Tingling took the Downtown Independent Democrats and the Park River Democratic Club, showing some geographical diversity. (DID is located downtown, obviously, and PRID is on West 72nd Street).

Nora Anderson won the Village Reform Democratic Club (which is slightly to the right of its counterpart, Village Independent Democrats) and the Coalition of Disabled Americans.

John Reddy won the Lexington Democratic Club, a powerful organization on the East Side.

UPDATE: Reddy also won the endorsement of the Lenox Hill Democratic Club, giving him a sweep of the midtown clubs that voted last night.

Calling VRDC only "slightly" to the right of VID is an insult and a stupid statement from a lazy reporter.

Anonymous (not verified) says:

Well, VRDC never did endorse C. Vernon Mason for Manhattan District Attorney, as VID did against Robert Morgenthau in 1985, we'll grant you that. And VRDC never endorsed a former spokeswoman for the Communist Workers Party for City Council, as VID in 1991 against Kathryn Freed. But calling Azi stupid and lazy is a reflexively knee-jerk and unthinking statement that reflects more on its author than on its subject.

Reddy also won Lenox Hill.

I think you're mentioning CODA, which is actually Coalition for a District 2 Alternative (Rosie Mendez and Margarita Lopez are both out of CODA).

William D. Stricklin (not verified) says:

The VID VRDC fued is for the most part a thing of the past. Occasionally we will disagree on an endorsement; but there is very little animosity between the two Clubs anymore. The fact that VID endorsed Arthur Schwartz for State Committee highlights the new era of cooperation.

VRDC is run by Ray Cline who makes his living evicting tenants in his day job. He was so bad even McManus kicked him out of his club.

CODA did not yet exist when VID endorsed the now-disbarred Mason for Manhattan DA and former Communist Workers Party spokeswoman Margaret Chin for City Council in 1991. Now that we are mulling VID's fabled past, didn't its members give more votes to endorse Al Sharpton than they did to Pat Moynihan in the Senate primary in 1994, or was that just VID's "sister" club in the LGBT community, GLID?

Sorry I'm a little late with my post, I went away for the weekend and am just catching up. I was at one of the meetings on Thursday night and just wanted to point something out about these candidates that I found hilarious.

Ms. Anderson seems to be wrapping herself in the "reform flag". As a believer in reform, and after reading about her over 10 years of experience in the court that she claims are broken, her running as the reform candidate is kinda like Dick Cheney running for President and telling us that he is going to reform the White House.

The Surrogate's race is getting nasty. A Timgling supporter in DID put out some mis information about Nora Anderson law firm being responsible for the Brooklyn surrogate being removed. The person who send the emails was confronted and she sent out a retraction. The damage was done. The major problem in DID was that they didn't endorse Martin.
Things go so wild below 14th Street. Now its DID turn to take a nose dive. For better or worse Ray Cline has kept the VRDC alive and can be seen working at the tenants clinic for the VRDC. The VID isn't currently trying to see how far left they can go for the pratice. These two club when
they work together. Since CODA endorsed Anderson it should be a landslide.

Hi Ray Cline at 2:15 p.m.,

When you post b.s. saying what a good guy you are and self-praising nonsense about how you and your club run a tenants' clinic (hoping to cloud the fact that you and your member/partners also evict tenants as someone else stated above), it is alway a good idea NEVER to SIGN YOUR own NAME at the bottom of your comment as you did here accidentally.

Also, in the sake of honesty and full disclosure, why didn't you state that you are a paid consultant for Nora Anderson? Hence all the anti-Tingling and pro-Nora propaganda. Yes, honesty is difficult for you, isn't it?

Can't wait to get some receiverships from Anderson should she win, can you?

Finally, how dare you invoke CODA! You are despised here.

Raymond Cline (not verified) says:

Thanks for spelling my name right. That's one fact you all got right.

You all can say anything you wish about me because I don't really care. It only to show that you can't stay on topic.

Have a great day.

If Seth Rubenstein wanted to be Manhattan Surrogate that badly, why didn't he just run for the office? Instead he buys Nora Anderson for $225,000 and gets to run the court from behind her pretty face. Anyone who thinks that $225,000 loan will be repaid is crazy. That was the cost of buying Nora as a front person. The court will be run Seth Rubenstein. This is clearly corruption before Nora and Seth ever take the bench.
