The Morning After at Spitzer's 985 Fifth: 'That's Just Where the Soon-To-Be Ex-Governor Lives'
It's a zoo outside of 985 Fifth Avenue this morning. That's the apartment tower between 79th and 80th streets where Governor Spitzer and his family live when they're in the city (it was developed by the governor's father in the late 1960's).
Camera crews are camped out on the sidewalk as helicopters buzz overhead. Reporters from all the main networks are lined up on 79th and Fifth with microphones in the ready position should anyone from the Spitzer clan emerge from what has become the most fortified building in Manhattan.
I tried to get inside to talk to the governor's neighbors and building workers, but an NYPD officer has been guarding the main entrance. Police vans are also stationed outside in front of Central Park.
A toddler asked his parents what was going on as they hurried past the media hordes. His mother's response echoed what appear to be the sentiments of most New Yorkers.
"It's nothing, sweetie. That's just where the soon-to-be ex-governor lives."
