At Nashua North High, Hillary Clinton Spars With Chris Matthews Over Troop Withdrawal

During her visit to Nashua North High School here in New Hampshire earlier this afternoon, Hillary Clinton did her second presser in three days and got into a testy exchange with Chris Matthews.

He asked her to distinguish her platform on returning troops from Iraq versus Barack Obama. Mrs. Clinton said a few words, not particularly in season; she said she'd be very responsible about it. Matthews asked a follow-up and she said, "Well you guys can figure out the difference."

"No, you tell us the difference!" he barked.

"I'm not on your show, I'm just answering your question," she responded.

"Please come on my show," he said.

She then answered the Iraq question by returning to her stump speech message--troops out in 60 days and then bring the rest home in increments.

Did that satisfy the notoriously emotional Mr. Matthews?

"She answered it, I guess, but it's not what we want. I guess she's saying she'll bring home two brigades every month? What's two brigades, I don't even know what that is, I guess I'll look it up."

I changed the subject and asked Mr. Matthews what he thought about Charlie Gibson last night as moderator of the debate; after all, Mr. Matthews has done it before.

"I'm no media critic. I'm no media critic. I'm not going to criticize my friend Charlie Gibson. Look, we all have our different styles. I have mine, he has his."

What's the difference?

"You can figure out the difference," he said.

One has to stifle a guffaw at the Clinton's new tack, attacking Obama for "giving a good speech but speeches dont make anything happen".
So Bill and Hillary must think the Gettysburg Address, MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech, JFK's "ask not what your country can do for you..." were all just a bunch of hot air that didnt move history?
On top of that, Obama has more lesgislative experience than Hillary. She's never sponsored a piece of legislation. And, if she didnt know her husband was cuckolding her with a 21 year old White House intern just down the hall from her office, how is she going to keep tabs on Al Queda?

"Troops out in sixty days and then bring the rest home in increments." "I'd be responsible about it." This is so vague, it's meaningless. It's not anything like a plan. In fact, it's so patronizing that I'm surprised New Hampshire Democrats are not insulted by it.

Wake -UP to Hillary Clinton Political Dance .

The Clintons first night in the White House they looked at each other and had a huge laugh,
not much different than Rove , Bush , Cheney team . Both Clintons and Bush politics won !
The laugh is about the American People who pretty much are Apathetic , Ignorant , fearful ; who for the most part are herded by the corporate media .

Hillary is 13 days younger than me , however as a voter we are worlds apart due to her support of the status quo ....Corporate America !

She will not end the war in Iraq anymore than any of the other front runners seeking power .
Dennis Kucinch is the only candidate that will create any meaningful change in USA .
Sadly he wants the American's to think critically , However they have DO NOT DISTURB STAMPED ACROSS THEIR AMERICAN FORHEADS !

Short of a very intelligent American voter Revolution in this country needing just one third of our population it will remain business as usual ..A Government working for the American Greed Corporations will survive until the long awaited Meteor changes the landscape and end the journey for this out of balance , insane species called Human .
Question : What does it mean to be a real Human Being ? Hint .. Consciousness ....

If anyone thinks that Obama will accomplish what he is trying to sell the American people, they need to wake up. Obama has neither the experience or clout to accomplish it. He is like any other person selling you the moon, without the ride to get there.

On the other hand, Hilary Clinton does have the EXPERIENCE AND CLOUT TO MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN! We do not need a Rookie in the White House! On the Job Training (OJT) the American people do not need right now.We want Hilary Clinton, so that one day one, she will be able to start making the changes that the American people are asking for. We also want Hilary Clinton, a woman that the other World Leaders know and in many of the cases, have even their support for Hilary Clinton

What Cris Matthews did, was what the producers pay him to do, to bring about controversial opinions between the candidates.

The Democrats are in La La land again-Do we really need another amateur as our candidate
for president? Big deal! he feels our pain and he is counting on us to help him cure it.
Who knows what can happen to this country while we echo the slogan "to-gether we can"
We have a remarkable woman tried and tested ready to take her place as the experienced leader of this country. Just imagine what America can be for the next generation of women and children if we can break through the bias that exists. IF NOT NOW -THEN WHEN?
WOMEN GET OUT AND WORK FR HILLARY AND A MUCH BETTER COUNTRY

Please, if you can not give even one example of which important legislation Obama passed so far, stop this crap.

He has no achievements at all to show, that is why in the dabate he was very quiet about achievements.

All this Obama hype will bring the Republicans back to power. They are happy to promote his candidacy now, to rip him off later.

And all this hope and change talk makes me sick. NO achievements= NO changes= NO hope.

If you give a speech saying you’ll vote againt the Patriot Act and you don’t, that’s not change.

if you say you’re going to prevent members of congress to have lunch with lobbyists sitting down, but they can still have lunch standing up, that’s not change.

If you say you passed the Patients Bill of Rights, but you don’t mention it never got signed into law, that’s not change.

If you rail against the special intersts…but you voted for Dick Cheney’s energy bill, that’s not change

If you gave a speech — and a very good speech — against the war in Iraq in 2002 and then by 2004 you’re saying you’re not sure how you would have voted, and by 2005 six and seven you’ve voted for $300 billion for the war you said you’re against, that’s not change.

Mrs Clinton knows what she is talking about and is the only candidate who can bring the US back on track at home and internationally.

I stand for Hillary Clinton.

Obama makes nice speeches but President's job needs more than that. Figure out Obama making his nice speeches to Ahmadinejad. The Iranian president should outwit him instantly. And this would be a loss for the democracy and the value America represents. Obama has to prove he can walk the talk. But till now he's changed a lot: his word and his voting record.

Figure out Ahmadinejad in front of Hillary Clinton President. He'll chicken out. Hillary knows what she says, SHE MEANS WHAT SHE SAYS.

She's agreat woman of our times, she's proven to be a great mother, a great wife even this was very difficult most of the time.

Hillary Clinton has produced change everyday of her life. There's no great man unless a great woman is by his side.

Hillary Clinton has shown strength and grace under pressure and pressure, rather than bread and butter, is what she has cut 24/24, 7/7 all around the year, all her life. Producing change.

Ahamdenijad? Are you joking? Ahamdenijad's about as dangerous as Saddam was, and he doesn't even control his own military (do a little research). The real threat is being ignored once again, and if you can't figure out what that is, listen up: Bush and his cronies have damaged America more than a thousand Bin Laden's ever could. His wars and deficit spending have harmed the economy more than any terrorist attack ever will. The greed of the banks has produced a crisis that could tip our whole economy. And you're worried about a man who doesn't even have control over his own country, a half a world away, whose only mechanism of control over his own power is to talk tough and make obviously empty threats? Iran can't even refine enough oil to drive its cars, let alone launch any type of agression.

Get real, check your facts, Hillary is complicit in the worst of the actions of the present administration: Iraq, Patriot Act I&II. If her record is proven, she hasn't done anything but hasten our fall.

And you actually think that if Obama's elected he'll have the troops all home in 60-90 days?

First of all it's logistically impossible to bring home over 140,000 troops in such a time frame, we'd leave huge numbers of troops unable to defend themselves as the numbers diminished, and the removal of the equipment, etc. will take upwards of 6 months at the very minimum.

The question itself is ridiculous and anybody who throws out an instant response isn't fit to lead.

basil9 (not verified) says:

I have lost all respect for journalists, whether print or media, as a result of the overwhelming anti-Clinton bias and the Oprama free-pass phenomena. Chris Mathews and his colleagues have succeeded in handing Oprama the nomination on a silver platter, essentially guaranteeing a Republican administration in 2009.

Instead of reporting substantial news, today's journalists seem more intent on advancing their own careers, jumping on the latest media bandwagon without thinking about the issues, and smearing the target-du-jour.

It reminds me of the in-crowd, out-crowd, reputation-smearing tactics of high schoolers. But then again, that’s all the Facebook, Myspace, internet crowd is; a pathetic extension of high school. The same, it seems, can now be said for the so-called free press.

Since Mr. Mathews and company have already coronated King Hussein Obama, I guess there’s no need for us to watch TV or read the paper. We already know the outcome. It's been crammed down the collective public’s throat for months.

It's probably too late to redeem Clinton's candidacy, so journalists can rest assured that it will have been they who crowned Oprama.

How ironic that in the 21st century, the prospect of the first woman president is, apparently, far less palatable to the mostly white-male-dominated news media than an unknown, inexperienced, unscrutinized black man.

Wow. Do Some of you people actually vote? I teach seventh graders who show me more critical thinking skills then some of the mindless name calling I have witnessed here. America need not fear the likes of Bin Laden to tear us down, we have politicians (doing the bidding of corperate America)doing a fine job of it. John Edwards stated it best the other night when he stated that the pork barrel politicos always seem to squeal loudest when there is talk of changing the status quo. Wake up America, its time for a multipartied system in this country. But unless Ralph decides to run I guess I need to determine whether Obama or Edwards is the least likely to follow in the steps of Bushclintonmccain.

Sacbadger (not verified) says:

Double Wow. Hey Anonymous, do you kiss your mother with that mouth. BTW you aren't smarter than a seventh grader because they at least no that gas and bag don't form a compound word. I guess we have found a child left behind. Ralph, save us.

I think MR. Obama has a very appealing message. I love his speeches! He thinks like I do! Unfortunatly I don't think he can play nice with the big boys and win any more than I could. We need a fighter. I think Hillary is pretty much in tune with what I think also, but is more likely to get the job done.

basil9 (not verified) says:

Well, maybe I am a bit miffed about the free ride Obama has gotten from the press, and your point is well-taken. OK, I meant to say Obama. The Oprama just seemed so much more applicable.

If some of the coverage Clinton has been subjected to were translated from the misogynistic to the racist and then directed at Obama, the journalist in question would have lost their job.

But since gender politics are easier and, apparently, far more important to uphold then ceding power to women, (despite the fact that black men won the right to vote a half-century before any woman in the country) white men throw about gender generalities and misogynistic commentary with an aplomb they'd be terrified to use with regards to race.

And it's not that Obama is black; he's unqualified, undeserving and just happens to be the flavor-du-jour. I can't wait until Clinton bows out and the full force of investigation is thrown against the Obama candidacy. And, of course, whose agenda do you think HE'S really following? I'm quite sure it's not the plight of the poor and working classes.

So, once agin the Republicans will have their way with the American electorate and there will be another 8 years of puppet Republican-controlled government ala the Bhutto dynasty.

BTW - you forgot to mention the sword.

Does anyone seriously believe that Barack Obama can stand toe to toe with John McCain? He's a kid relatively speaking and McCain will chew him up and spit him out. He gives good speech but does anyone really have any idea whether or not he can lead? And does anyone really believe Barack Obama is going to turn Washington into a lovefest just because he's a nice guy and wants everyone to play nice too? It's as naive as all those people who voted for Ralph Nader and pretend they aren't at least somewhat responsible for 3,000 dead Ameican soldiers and over a million dead Iraqis. And gee, no I wouldn't want a Clinton adminsistration again because who would want jobs, education reform, budget surpluses, a stable social security system and world peace? Cause that would be same old same old. I want to gamble with the fate of the world because I have the attention span of an ant. Grow up Democrats, this is serious business, it's not a beauty contest.

MSNBC, NBC political pundits are so blatantly biased against Hillary. Please pose the same immigration and health care questions you asked Hillary to Sens. Obama and Edwards.

Also, why did Sen. Obama vote "present" during his tenure as a state representative? Where are those hard questions? Where are the specifics regarding troop pullouts, how to fund health care?

Won't the Republican candidate(s) pounce on this?

Madeline (not verified) says:

I agree with you totally. Obama has gotten a free ride from the male dominated media. From day one, Hillary has been hounded and criticized unmecifully about he every action while the media has cheered for Obama. Obama has not even been criticized by the media. None of the male candidates have been vilified like Hillary. The male media holds her to a tougher standard because she is a woman who dares to seek the Presidency. There is no question that Hillary is the most versed and knowledgeable candidate of the entire Democratic and Republican field. Hillary is truly a strong and brave woman to withstand all the hatred and abuse from those in the media who do everything they can to undermine and belittle her. Obama will become the nominee and the Republicans wiil win the Presidency again. I am a life long Democrat and I will never vote for free rider happy talk Obama.
