New York City Opera to Tour the Five Boroughs
As the New York Sun reports, the New York City Opera’s home at the New York State Theater in Lincoln Center is currently undergoing renovations. So to keep the music alive, the Opera will tour the five boroughs during its 2008-2009 season with a series of concerts, showcases, screenings and discussions at various theaters throughout the city. Stops will include the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx, the Whitman Theater in Brooklyn, the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in Queens and, in Manhattan, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
“Our goal is to provide audiences with a distinctive series of concerts and events that look forward to the future of New York City Opera,” said Susan L. Baker, City Opera board chairman, in a statement.
Next season, the Belgian-born opera director Gerard Mortier will take the helm of the City Opera as general manager.
